My head gasket just failed last month. I scratched my head and remembered I bought a head gasket kit from Cdan about 15 years ago. (Full bow to the Shaman.) Opened the drawer in the back and there it was sitting in the bottom. lol. I got to work and 3 days later had the old cruiser going again.
When we did the thermostat, (88 degree), we also took off and cleaned the heater valve on the firewall and the one under the seat. Made sure they were working freely. Both were barely opening and restricting flow. Check them.
Just did similar to an 83 BJ60. Tons of cutting out rust and welding in metal. Here is the hole in the floor. Can see where some repair peices are tacked in. Didnt get a pic of the repair. dang. Here is where we are at now. I had never welded before and the neighbours kid showed me some and with...
I have already taken the water control valve out. It was stiff as hell and I soaked it in sunlight and lubed the pivot point. It works very smoothly now and the rubber seal inside is in good shape. Will check adjustment. Did the same for the rear heater. Blend door is working easily and seals...
Actually don't have an aftermarket gauge. Even after running for 20 min at 1500 rpm I can still just take off the radiator cap or the cap on the thermometer housing and stick in a candy thermometer and measure the temp. There is no rubber o ring and the thermostat looks after market and...
Well this 3b runs cold. Even after 20 min at 1500 rpm (hand throttle), the coolant is still only 135 degrees. That is with the front and rear heat on as I am trying to get the heating system working well for winter. Previous owner froze every winter. I found the front heater valve would only...
Here is what was in the 1983 3B. It's an 82 degree thermostat. I don't think it's the correct one. We are up in Canada and I think the 88 degree would be better. Anybody have the part number.
Do you have any pictures of the truck and or the rust? I am currently helping my neighbours kid fix the rust and make his BJ60 as sound as we can without a body off frame. Just shot the primer on the chassis after a month of fixing rust. If it is bad in the floor there may be a lot more. I might...
left hand side. Cleaned it up again real good. Still leaking. I do believe it is where the cylinder head meets the block. Here is another pic. Thats the dipstick tube on the right. That is after running about half an hour.
Sooo, fired it up cleaned up the engine and took it out for a drive sans doors, windows etc. No drip at the rear main, but I did find this leak on the drivers side. Head gasket?
