    Grinding Sound Go Nuts!!

Hello Pin Head, The noise sounds like it's a noise from something rotating. It sounds like metal rubbing metal but the volumei/rhythm does not change. I do not go off road much, so I don't think I broke a birf, but who knows though. When I first bought the truck I put wheels with the wrong...

    Grinding Sound Go Nuts!!

Hey Brad, Just replaced the bushings last Summer. I'll check them again. Hope it's not them, what a PITA the first. This time would be easier since they're not 30+ years old. Tim

    Grinding Sound Go Nuts!!

Hello!! OK I've had it. For a while, when I go over bumps or hit my brakes, I get a "metal on metal" sound coming(I think) from the front right hand side of my truck?? I sounds like my tie rods or something is rubbing something. I've looked and looked, can't see anything that's rubbing...

    73 J40/1980 3/4 ton GMC Pick up

Hello All, I have a 73 J40 with a Chevy 350 and stock tranny/t-case. I've had an old 1980 3/4 ton GMC w/4 speed and granny gear(two wheel drive) pick up for a while. I'm going to junk the pick up since by J40 keeps me busy enough. My question is.....What can I salvage off the pick up and...

    RPM's: What's Yours?

Well, I got home and sure enough, it was set on "6 cylinder" I now run at about 3000 rpm's at around 50-55 mph. As far as gas mileage goes, yeah, it's hard not to "get on it" when you have a 350/dual exhaust and you've been working on it for over two years. I could probably get around 10 mpg...

    RPM's: What's Yours?

THANK GOD!!!!! I looked at the instructions for the tach(if all else fails) I didn't even know there was a 6 cylinder setting. My cruiser moves, but not 90mph!! so I must the tach set wrong. Phew, now I'll change the setting and see what I've got. If I'm around 3000 rpm at 70mph, I can...

    RPM's: What's Yours?

Speedo doesn't work, you are all right though. I could be going anywhere from 55mph to 80mph. Just try to "go with the flow" of traffic. Only good things is, the motor sounds like it is not "working" too hard, pressure and temp are always good too. Just thinking, that down the road, I will...

    RPM's: What's Yours?

Hello All, Since I have rebuilt my J40. I put a tach on it. To my surprise I'm running 4000+rpm's at freeway speed....Is this possible, or is my new tach a piece of garbage. Here's what I run, SBC 350 with a stock 4 speed w/4speed t/c. The rearend is stock and I'm running 32" BFG...
