I could use a little help troubleshooting my alternator. 1988, 3FE. I noticed that the voltage is not coming up like normal when running. Checked with a voltmeter at the battery terminals, and sure enough the voltage stays around 12 V even when running, and when I rev it up a bit. Fusible links...
I am contemplating having the front seats repaired at a local upholstery shop. I have the typical driver's side bolster issue and the foam is pretty well toast in both seats (especially driver's side). My thought is to have the shop replace the fabric on the bolster on the bottoms and the tops...
I have a set of 15" steel rims for sale. I bought them for the tires, so don't need the rims. They are in fair condition as you can see in the pics, also I will include the Toyota caps. From what I know they came off of a early 90's Toyota pickup.
Located in Houston, not interested in shipping.
Has anyone tried to fit BMW F10 seats into a 62? Looking at a set for a decent price, wondering if they will fit. They are labelled "F10 F01".
I don't mind some fab work to match the bracket as needed.
They are local so I can go and see them in person, what dimensions should I check besides just...
Can someone tell me the size of the screw for this linkage? M8? by xx long? Mine seems to have taken a leave of absence.
I assume it is NLA? I tried to find the part numbers but couldn't. I think I could get a long bolt and a barrel nut and weld a tab on it with a hole to fab up a replacement...
I'm having trouble removing the lower cover of the evaporator core, I have removed five screws (red circles) and two clips (blue) as shown, but it still seems attached somewhere back at the firewall? What am I missing?
TIA

I was having some intermittent issues with the blower - looks like I found the culprit. This connection has gotten HOT, I assume from having a bad contact and high current. Anyone know a part number for a replacement? '88 FJ62. I could wing it with individual connectors but that seems like...
Looking for a FJ62 front bumper- preferrably within a reasonable drive of Houston. Ultimately we will likely go with an aftermarket bumper (or home fabricated) so it doesn't have to be pristine. A little character is OK, as long as I can bolt it up without too much manipulation.
Thanks,
Marc
So "minor" accident in Houston, other owner's insurance (Gecko) claimed full responsibility. However, having trouble coming to terms with the labor rates at my preferred shop (the one recommended by Javier's).
Anyone have any other recommended shops? I haven't given up yet on sorting out the...
OK, so the DS door recently stuck locked and shut. Could not open from inside or outside, even while pulling up on the lock post. We removed the door card and fiddled with it to finally get it open. it looks like a spring is broken. This weekend we will remove the lock mechanism and replace the...
our 1988 FJ62 has randomly died twice in the last couple of weeks. Both times while driving and warmed up. No warning, just shut down. Engine will then turn over but not start.
The first time I dragged it back to the house and the next day it started right up like nothing happened. Ran fine for...
OK I could use a little help from the MUD braintrust. About two months ago the fuel pump died. Since I was going out of town I took it to Javier's here in Houston for replacement of the pump. They also replaced the fuel filter. Now there are a couple of new things going on.
1. it's noisy. I can...
So we've had our FJ62 a little over a year and my son has been dying to get it on some mud. He finally got an opportunity and certainly put it in some soup. OK, no biggie, I was a teenager once too...
.
After initial cleaning there was some noise up front so I had him clean up the pulleys and...
so we've had this FJ62 for about a year now, and only one set of keys. So I searched on here about key blanks, etc. and discovered that others have only one key for doors and ignition?
Ours came with two keys, and they don't match. One fits the doors and one fits the ignition. I seem to recall...
1988 FJ62 with auto transmission, pretty well stock. bought about a year ago. initially the oil level was "too high" on the dipstick, so I let some out to get it on the crosshatches. just changed the oil for the first time (we haven't put many miles on it). Only got out 1 gallon .
Put in...
So this morning the fan was making some bad knocking noises, and it seems that the shaft on the water pump has a great deal of play, allowing the fan to bang against a pulley or two. So far have removed fan and belts and fan clutch. Thankfully PO had already split the fan shroud. I was hoping it...
Doing some routine maintenance to the "new to us" cruiser and thought it would be good to replace fluid in Differentials and the Transfer case. Ordered up the socket hex plugs and new gaskets as found in a thread on here. Well, the transfer case has this cute rubber boat plug in the fill port...
Is it possible to replace the high pressure line for the power steering without removing the radiator and other stuff? Since I am in the middle of a power steering pump rebuild and steering box rebuild I figured I would replace the lines. Ordered the replacement high pressure line and now...
Hi, new FJ62 owner here. I have recently acquired an 88 FJ62 and am enjoying reading about everyone's mods and seeing lots of cool examples of these. My son and I are working on it together and it will be his in a few short weeks. We sent off the steering gearbox to West Texas offroad and are...
