My wifes brother lives in Aspen and she gave me clearance to do the divide. I am thinking the year after next to allow for proper planning and gear acquisition. Is anyone interested in getting this started? I am thinking we would need close to 2 weeks off- 6 days driving to and from, and then 8 days to drive and camp on the trail. Maybe we could make contact with some of the local clubs out there also.... Let me know if anyone has interest and we can start planning.

Headed out that way this summer with the wife for a couple of months in the 80 hope to hit up atleast part of the divide at some point......

are you talking the divide just in colorado or the whole thing??? I assume just CO as the whole thing I imagine would take several weeks if not more.

check out this thread on mud in the expo thread: https://forum.ih8mud.com/expedition-builds/213544-continental-divide-expedition-route-book.html

also a killer vidoe here of the CO divide trail done back in the 90's by Tom Collins and Land Rover: Great Divide

either way I'd be interested... always wanted to do the border to border run myself http://www.mex2can.com/article/National Geo.pdf

I think for most of us working stiffs- two weeks might be the max we could manage- I amy be able to get three- I would want to do as much as possible. These would be things we would need to finalize. Thanks for the links- maybe we could even link with the disabled explorers as they just did it and I definitly qualify as a member of their group ;)

This would be amazing. I am definetly interested, and I think I can get my Crew (wife and kids) on board! Gives me a goal to get the FJ ready for. I am pretty sure I can get at least 2 weeks, maybe even able to swing the 3 with enough notice.

I am bringing at least one of my girls.

How old?

My only hesitation would be my youngest. I have 10 year old girl, 9, year old by and a 2 1/2 year old girl. At the least I may roll with 1, if I can get away with it. If it is more than a year away, I am thinking it may work (as the wee one loves the outdoors now, hard to keep her out of the yard and trees.),

I just have to look into the trail a little bit before making any real decisions on who I am going to bring hehe.

I'd do it in the hundy once it is built up. Are the trails more overland than rock crawling? aka more suited to the hundred?

I would bring my oldest who is 10 now. As far as where to get on that is open for discussion. Watch the video that was linked in a previous post and it gives a great idea of the terrain. Do you think is something the trail team would be interested being involved? Maybe we should have a meeting to get a plan of action. There are going to be lots of questions. I personally would like to have someone who has done some similar type of overlanding go along with us.

if we were to follow a similiar route to the one take by the Disabled Explores this past summer I would say it is geared much more toward overlanding than rock crawling....... think lots of Forrest Service roads

you can check out there trip here :Disabled Explorers - On the Trail

I am just thinking out loud -we could have it mixed with the tom collins route. Would be good to find something that works for everyone.

One thing to remember is on a trip like this the vehicle you drive out is going to be the vehicle you drive home....If your goal is an expedition trip then stick with that and do some hiking or fishing, rather than making it an expedition/wheelin trip. On a trip like this for me would be to see the mountains and outdoors and wildlife etc etc etc because I've only been out there 2 times before. Granted it is a different type of wheeling but I'd rather wheel closer to home so if I do break it I can get it home easier. Depending on your goals but I'd like a camping/expedition trip to enjoy the outdoors and eachothers company, rather than a wheelin trip worrying if something is going to break. Now don't get me wrong if I could trailer my 40 out there I'd push it to the max....Just something to think about and being a lil of the devils advocate side.

If you know me and my truck, you need no worry about extreme wheeling. If some in group wish to tackle some of the more technical trails, then thats where perhaps we can link with some of the local TLCA clubs. Personally, my goal in this is the same as yours, seeing a part of the country I have never seen and hopefully giving my daughter an educational experience that she will remember the rest of her life.

That sounds like an awesome trip. Depending on planning and timeframe i would be in and would also bring my daughter with me. She is 10 also.

sounds good- I dont think i will be at the next meeting but we need to start getting some concrete ideas down as to where we get on, how long we stay, and what route we take.

Also would be good to talk with someone out there to see what we would need to bring in terms of gear. I have a 416 that i can tow and load up with gear. I am about to start building it up.

Tentative In. 2 weeks off is tough, but this would be worth it!

I would be interested.....should have rooftop tent by then and if not got a regular tent and good bags already.

I was wanting to take a trip out that way to visit some friends......I have good friends in SLC and also Rapid City....so I might have to figure out an excuse to be out that way and not visit them....or add another week to my trip. :( LOL
