A few weeks ago i was looking for vehicles and things on some pages in the www , found something that caught my eye and decided to meet the seller and have a look ..........i should have stayed at home... :meh:

Its a 2010 *Amberlamps* unit that used to be on a Mercedes Sprinter doing its job for the Red Cross, somehow they sold the rig nd had the *ballast* as a leftover.

I am actually doing some minor changes like a sleeping area in the rear, put a sink in it and in the end it will be a trailer for wheeling and exploring, not hardcore but going places erect basecamp and have fun with the vehicle.

Very cool! Subscribed...

That looks more like a mobile dentist office then an ambulance. Regardless that should be a pretty cool little camper project.

Because it was from the Red Cross probably for providing health care at a disaster site as compared to a ambulance transport which would explain the way it's set up. Like watching builds that are thinking outside the box.

I love it! A few years ago in Morocco a buddy and I converted an old Sprinter based ambulance into a mobile dental clinic. I would love to get an old ambulance now to convert to a camper, but if I bought an ambulance now I would need it to stay an ambulance, because the wife would kick my butt and I would need a ride to the hospital!

Did some more work, installing some sound.......... had speakers and radio anyway so why not use it?

130mm

200mm

And a fridge was needed too, just a plain 240V for the campground, i could use ice or dry ice if needed on the trip.
31451817yl.jpg

83cm space..........85cm fridge......i did find the 2cm i could get rid off.

31451818cs.jpg

Fits perfect.

31451816rc.jpg

Home sweet home.

31451819ac.jpg

Cutting up a beer crate so the bottles wont be rolling around.

Next step will be frame, axles, wheels.

Some more useful things recently added.

31462762ah.jpg

Action Packers fit pretty exact under the part that finds use as a third of the sleeping platform.

31462763iw.jpg

Since we perfer to do the cooking outside, i installed this outdoor kitchen on the rear door. Installed or taken off in seconds.

31462764hu.jpg

I will put a fixation for a tarp up top so even if the weather wont be to good, we can still be in the dry.

man, that would be so much fun to build.
Think this cost a Euro or 2 when new...?
But geez, water in a beer crate and in Germany...?
On the more technical side, it does seem a bit tall, skinny and maybe top heavy for a potential trailer. Have you thought about stability issues?

New they might be around 70-90k depending accessories plus a Mercedes Sprinter below. I paid a four numbered fraction of that.
That was alc free beer anyway
It will get a frame with axles below it to keep the center of gravity low, 13" wheels tandem axle and maybe a water and fuel tank in the rear, that way i have fuel for the rig when needed and a better weight balance/ tongue weight.

The frame is in the works, spend a saturday cutting, measuring and welding.
The Campulance will get two 1400Kilo axles below so we can load a few needed things once the trailer is completed.

Now all separated again since the main frame needs zink plating, then it gets assembled again and next step is getting the official TÜV aproval before we can hit the road with it.

Coming to the end of the project soon.

My friend Sacha arrived today with the galvanised frame, we did put the axles and all other stuff on there in no time.

So thats how it looks right now, some minor things to add, like electrics for the lights, working on the fender wells, changing the lettering to CAMPULANCE and the we will be ready to get it road legal and on the street!

I am thankful to have a wife that supports my ideas and has a perfect understanding for things being different........ :princess:

Wow, 4 months!! Amazing winter project almost complete. Great job. Am I right in understanding
that zinc coating is quite common over there; is it a requirement?

Well done!

Since the roads get salt in wintertime it makes sense to get best protection, this way it will last for my lifetime.

Update!
Not a lot left to do right now but electrics.

32254529yd.jpg

Leftover wiring, not necessary right now but might be good for something.

32254526hk.jpg

Looks like a christmas tree, reverse light and fog light necessary over here in europe, i did find some lights that match all of that and look tolerable.

32254527wv.jpg

Bought the number plate holder at the 1 Euro shop......... Very Impotent People

32254528yl.jpg

Have to get rid of the refllecting foil, illegal here and i need the space for the new lettering.

Used these WAGO 221 connectors and two watertight boxes for the wiring

Sorry, but I'm not able to translate this. Looks like you are able to utilize multiple wire diameters, but I don't get it.
Is this so they all share the same power? Are they all linked together or is there something that plugs into them on
the back side?
