How often do you change your oil filter? (1 Viewer)

I change it whenever it starts to look pretty bad, normally once a year. I do maybe 5k miles in a year though.
Once a year or so. 5-8000 miles. It never looks bad though.

Every 5000K been using castrol 10W-40 from memory

I go 10 thousand miles on a small Purolator. I get my fake Mobile One 15-50 for about $4.60 per quart @ Walmart. Last motor I lost was in 1969 running Penzoil and Fram.

Reason why I ask is because my oil from today (maybe 2500-3k) looked like my turkeys brine. Very very dark... not too worried though

Turkey brine should not be that dark...light caramel.

@saltycoconuts:

Never seen a muffler bearing?!

Rarely any need to change them. They are almost always in good shape. The muffler itself will rust away, but I've never seen a bad bearing. ;)

Once a year-ish with semi synthetic or full synthetic if the wallet isn't hurting too bad. Same as i did with any other vehicle before. My timing is never like clockwork but usually ends up being around 7-8000km.

Now that my 96 FZJ80 burns a quart (of Mobil 1 10W-40) every 1200 miles and knowing I'm topping off the oil
more frequently (freshening up the additive package) I generally change it out once a year no matter the mileage.
The newer Purolator Boss filter seems to have good specs and is designed for a long life so I've switched to using those recently. The Blackstone engine oil analysis comes back good. FWIW

^^^^ This.

At a quart burned every 1000 miles, I’m on the continuous change program. NAPA Gold or Toyota Filter once a year.

Once every oil change.
No more, no less. Give or take.
Burns 1 qt. every 700 miles. No leaks.

I read somewhere on here that makes it a hybrid.
Burns gas AND oil.

5k mobil 1 k&n filter

Twice a year, we put about 7-8k miles a year on it.

In the LX450 it burns 1 qt every 1K, so oil is constantly refreshed and it leaks everywhere atm. Filter and real oil change once a year right now.

Question I have is for guys running the thicker weights. Did you make the switch because of seeing increased consumption? Manual states 5w30 in my temp range, but I have considered going heavier to reduce consumption.

Have been using synthetic since i purchased it at about 55k miles. It gets fresh synthetic and new filter approx every 5k miles. The most recent change was to 10w30 (was using 5w30 Mobil 1 for over a year) and a Wix filter - I have used 10-40 in the past though. Have 235k miles now. Knocking on wood !!! I do not have to add between changes. In Canada ... but typically not 'too' cold for too long where I am, I need a gas tank though -- have the upper tank leak which seems common.
