I don't think EV matters in this regard. Modern vehicles are extremely difficult to keep on the road. EV, Gasoline, or diesel
They just have too many fail points
I'm very curious what the results are.
I'll take "No" on 150 rear wheel horsepower. ( I'll be surprised if the result is greater than 100.)
Good luck and have fun!
Thanks guys for all thoughts and pointing out stuff that I was unaware of.
The gentleman selling it (77 retired electrical engineer) did go through the vehicle and rewired everything. The only thing he didn’t get to is the wire on top of the...
It’s been a while since I posted, but I’ve been making good progress on the paint job. The paint has laid out much better than I could’ve expected, despite my paint booth falling apart!
Certainly just about anything is possible with enough time and money. But, when I look at the photos the phrase “Rode hard. Put away wet.” comes to mind. I also look at the incredibly lame attempt to make it more presentable.
I have no idea what...
That is my reply to the odd heep guy that wants to compare his rig with mine (in the parking lot): “Come back when your jeep is still being driven when it’s 50 years old, and we’ll talk.”
There are literally thousands of 50-year-old Land Cruisers still on the road today... I bet there will be VERY few Teslas on the road fifty years from now.
I saw in the first post's photos that the front crossmember has been replaced (from the factory they are installed with rivets and the replacement is bolted).
Honestly, even with the speed square photos, it really isn't that bad.
Again, it's...
Maybe I'm missing something, but it doesn't look that bad to me.
Rather than cutting and welding the frame, which I think would involve fish plating the repair (which makes it obvious the frame was repaired) why not take the frame to a shop...
Sadly, I think this is 100% true. Look at the price of pretty much anything, and it has gone up a lot. ("A lot" is a nice way of saying a s***-ton.)
Many of us bought our FJ40s, and/or parts for them, years ago when prices were SUBSTANTIALLY...
I think your view on $100k is skewed. Its just not much money anymore.
A complete wreck of a house in my podunk home town is $250k now. Houses that barely scratched past $100k ten years ago
Didn't realize your considering early 40 with a column shift. Haven't figured a value but have a 1970 model I purchased from the.original owner fourteen years ago. Have only started a few times in the last year. Its been kept in an insulated...
I don't think I would spend that much money on one even if I hit the billion dollar luttery by myself, come on seven. Still have a soft spot for the 917S and a Ferrari but I'd bet on a dozer, back and track hoe. That way I could dig a moat and...
That is correct. There were days when I had the time I did not have the money and when I had the money I didn't have the time.
My job is not a regular 9-5 40 hours a week. I do turbine/generator outages and when I work I work up to 84 hours...
I often have to remind myself of the average age demographic of this site.
I’m 35 and get caught up in the time and money people spend.
Then I remember they probably busted their ass all their life and are building them as they have more time...
The most popular SBC swap would be the stk 4 speed(H42)/tcase because it's the driveline that came with the 40. You can go with the H41 which is a similar trans housing and has a lower 1st gear. You will have to do research on what's involved...

It’s not a bad truck overall, but at the asking price it should be excellent and it isn’t. Funny...
I’ve had my 4Plus carrier for quite a few years and it’s absolutely underused.

I would think a speedi sleeve would be a cost effective option. I would check the other side too.
My front stub axles have grooves where the seals ride, new seals didn't fix the leaks - I plan for speedi sleeves to fix that. Have the one the...
