    Battery Information

It's wierd that in the USA you can buy light vehicle (car, ute, 4wd, suv) batteries are places like Costco, etc. The Bunnings hardware stores here in Australia do carry a small range of vehicle batteries. Auto parts stores are the most common places people get new batteries from, plus Battery...

Trying to find mating connector that plugs onto AC high-temp thermoswitch for 1hz motor

Never worked out what the correct one is. TBH the AC has never worked in my 80 since I bought in mid-2011 and it's not a core concern, but I'd like to fix up the damaged wiring so at least it's there and possible to re-enable.

Valve adjustment shim kit for 1HDT

There are places that make valve shims. We have one here in australia called Precision Shims which I have used last time I did the shims on my 80's 1hz motor at 600 k km's almost 8 yrs ago (yeah since then it's been driven a lot less) because I needed some thicknesses that couldn't be achieved...

Stock ride height… determining lift size

Top of lower spring seat to bottom of bumpstop at the front. There is a 'factory' measurement for this but not sure of the number. Both sides should be close to the same.

New style rear control arms that will offer better and smoother articulation

If you use factory rear arms the quality of the bushes is that of genuine toyota. Do *NOT* ever use poly bushes for those! Or the front arms, or panhards, or swaybars.

    Best replacement horn ideas?

Stebel 'truck horn' on my 80. I don't have an endless-air setup so can't mount a locomotive airhorn to the roof like some people do. 8-)

Wits End Order Issues / Joey Romero

4wd aftermarket places are pretty much all built on hype, and if they can live up to the hype they survive. Look at Australia - ARB and TJM are the two market leaders followed by Opposite Lock and some others. ARB and TJM definitely run more on hype that quality, and ARB's staff treat customers...

Wits End Order Issues / Joey Romero

I personally have bought from Wits End several times and never had a problem, but I'm in Australia and don't have $10000+ to splash on 4wd bling things so I buy what I actually need.

    Radius arm press tool?

    Wits End has a kit.

Where to apply grease (and what type) when performing a brake service?

For the record, I don't run any brake pad shims. The front brakes are 105 series pads that are bigger in area and thicker than 80 series pads and can't be fitted with shims. Front brakes do most of the work so nearly all the brake dust generation happens there. Also for the record, since OEM...

HZJ80 new H152 gearbox clutch and flywheel modification

Flywheel bolts should *never* be bare dry! If a threadlocker isn't used they should be lightly oiled. I don't use anti-sieze on them as (like head bolts, etc.) they are a 'critical component'.

    Dobinson 3.5 long travel

Replacement radius arms to suit the amount of lift are also an option.

What did you get your 80 for Christmas?

Just being able to afford to re-register and insure the 80 will be enough of a Xmas gift this year now that I've got a home loan for the next 30 years and have re-organised finances around that 8-) Rego runs out in a few weeks.

What did you get your 80 for Christmas?

Maybe new shocks but probably just a gearbox oil change and a freshen up of a few things with a very limited budget.

What are differences in factory sway / anti-roll bars on 80's

Right side, seems to occur where there is a rapid change in road undulation. Running buds customs arms for 4 inch lift. I can't get it to occur if I jump up and down on the right side of the bullbar violently to make the suspension load up. If I had a go pro or similar I'd strap it underneath...

    Ebay brake proportioning valves (LSPV)

LSPV is a very important part - do NOT skimp on it. ToyoDIY doesn't indicate that -60070 or -60090 are for drum or disk. -60070 is spec'd for up to 7/92, and -60090 for 8/92 up. Remember that pre-8/92 was not all drum rear. My 80 is 3/92 build with disk rear (the small version - the larger...

What are differences in factory sway / anti-roll bars on 80's

Slipping on a bunnings onion into 2023. I still cannot solve the clunking issue so I'm going to try removing the front roll/sway bar and drive around some of the normal places where I know I get the clunking to see if it changes the behaviour. I've checked and all the swaybar mounts seem...

How to tell when the shocks have flogged out and how to correctly measure lift height for specifying replacements ?

Ok, I've now got a day I can spend a few mins looking at this. I measured the spacing between the top of the spring seat and the bottom of the bump stop on both sides at the front and get 110 mm. Given that I believe the 'factory' ride height is 25 mm that means my understanding of the ride...

Looking for the brightest, widest coverage headlight aftermarket replacements, period. Cost is not an issue here...

US$1400 so (ignoring these will not be RHD compatible) they're super-expensive headlights! If they were made in a RHD compatible version they'd be a A$3000 purchase with exchange rate, freight, and import charges! Eek! Hope they are worth the money for the LHD folks that get them.

Correctly measuring and specifying shocks to suit a certain spring setup

Ok so a sort of newbie thing but something I've never completely understood. How do you determine what size/spec shocks to get? I have Lovells medium rate springs giving me about a 3.5 inch lift. I currently run Icon 1.0 shocks that are rated for up to 3 inch lift. That *should* be compatible...
