Good ride (35km) today, with some nice climbing in it. Really quick run out (first 5km were about on par with riding the road bike!) aided by a good tailwind... but because it was out and back, I had the headwind on the way back!
Really see...
Got my bumper re-installed post powdercoat. Also finished the final tune up tasks prior to SAS, new plugs, rotor and cap, checked the timing and topped off all fluids where needed. Also checked and greased my new front driveshaft.
Timing checked and set, idle speed turned up a bit, dumped the old gas and replaced it with fresh stuff, replaced the fuel filter, charcoal canister, etc. and it's running... sort of ok, sort of not. It's fine enough to finish out the checks on...
Just drove to work. Good lord does this motor like to spin. It feels like nothing for it to blow past 3000rpm. Super smooth. So far I feel a good bit of increased power between 1800 and about 2700 rpm. It also feels like there's some amount of...
Was a great weekend in the shop. Been a long time since there’s been this much activity. Unfortunately I did not take a single pic but here are some that the guys sent me. Saturday Daniel @LETSROLLEM repurposed some OME springs and gave his 60...
Thank you Brent. That pretty much sums up my motivation…trying to figure $hit out. The reservoir came clean. Test drive and one more possible brake adjustment and then she will go home on Sunday. As with most 60’s I could keep tweaking this and...
Adjusted the brakes a bit and bled them a second round. Should have looked under the screen the first time but found a lot of junk in the master reservoir. Gonna pick up some more fluid tomorrow and suction this reservoir out and do a final...
DS done :). Discovered a bit of concern with the brake lines. Both sides are bent almost 40 degrees. Second brake line pic is another axle in my shop. Will see how the fluid flows when I bleed the brakes.
Every single time, no one ever mentions the most important diagnostic. Vacuum measurement. No point in guessing when you can have empirical answers to point you in the correct direction.
Connect a vacuum gauge and read the vacuum. Engine dying...
I have never seen an icon up close but some of the other big-name builders mentioned in this thread cut some corners on their very expensive rigs. The show:go ratio just isn't there for me.
I'd much rather have a 40 built by one of the shops...
Yeah, sorry didn’t make it clear. Or specific. I’m a little out of it. I had umbilical hernia surgery today. So just starting to get normal after it all.
I appreciate you reaching out.
Changed the oil, checked that the air injection system was functioning properly, made sure all vacuum lines were connected where they are supposed to be, and then took my '80 in for the dreaded CA smog check. It passed! I sweat bullets every...
Carried yesterdays momentum into another 4+ install today. I ordered this a year ago when Dave was publicly discussing closing shop. Part of the deal with the full width one i recently picked up was i traded the OEM carrier off my ‘70, so with...
Been quite a while since i did anything 40 related. FB marketplace yielded a couple of solid scores over the past few months finding a 4+ front with basically new 8274, and a 4+ full width rear swingout. The new to me front has some patina, so...
Parts are here, tint is scraped and windows looking way better. This took hours with a razor blade and a hair dryer but think it was worth it. Plan is to get it ready for smog by the weekend.
EDIT - parts all installed, need to get more ATF...
New frame to new bike day…. Basically went from a Medium Esker Japhy to a Small Esker Japhy. So much happier with a bit smaller frame factor.
Jenna doing her magic…
She seems happy with the results…
