Back in the day, I found my local blacksmith/spring shop in the yellow pages. They re-arched my springs and added a leaf or two. Perhaps these shops still exist

I think that a good de-smog keeps the charcoal canister. Charcoal canister does not need to vent to the carb, mine vents to atmosphere.

Is the manifold crack creating a lean condition? Might explain the heat. Normally they don't do that

couldn't hurt. mostly I'd just run the garden hose in the top of the radiator and out your drain hole, then reverse it for a while. Did you ever replace those freeze plugs?

The gasket goes on the flange and the collar goes on the stub end of the exhaust pipe. There should be enough exhaust pipe sticking through the flange to accommodate both. Not sure what you mean by the collar being unsymmetrical. It should be...
