I went and laid hands on mine. It's in the "to be sand blasted and powder coated" pile. The steering box bolts onto the backside. In fact, that's the steering box bracket. It just doubles as a shock tower.

After the take out, we split ways and I headed for the Redwoods. Poached some photos and a quick walk down a trail without any park pass. From there, drove down to Eureka and stayed the night at a hotel.

Sounds like great idea! I was surprised how much of the area is privately owned. Doesn’t appear to have a much in way of public lands in immediate area but someone with more knowledge then I will likely share their thoughts.
