Worn out 265/75/16 BFGs are gone and have been replace with 285/75/16 Yokohama Geolandars. New tires are noticeably taller than the old. This is my 5th set of the Yokohama MTs, first set on the 80, previous 4 sets have been 255/85/16 that I run...
Admittedly, you are not a mechanic;, AAA is your friend.
Im mechanical and I carry AAA because if nothing else it will get me to a better place to deal with the problems.
Once you have the heater core out it will be a very good idea to refresh the o-rings on the tubes that pass through the firewall. I had a coolant leak thinking it was a bad heater core but turned out to only be a failed o-ring.
You can splice in a pigtail for the knock sensors without pulling the intake. Post #93 in this thread Anyone recognize this 80 - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/anyone-recognize-this-80.1355924/page-5 has a link to Ballenger for the proper...
I too had a failed FPR that (I believe) eventually killed the pump. Truck ran fine until it wouldn't start one morning, pump running but no flow.
Just reference for yourself or anyone reading the thread to troubleshoot fuel issues... install a...
Yeah this one was pretty frustrating as it presented as a failed fuel pump. Basically killed the original pump, the first replacement, and now the second is likely bad so I’m just going to throw a new one in again for peace of mind after running...
Swapped out the climate control panel because the one that was with the Cruiser had the AC button jammed in and the button would not disengage. May be a fix for this but I did not want to dig into the panel. Found a relatively cheap one on ebay...
Youngest son @cruiserinsanity borrowed the LX450 today to make a 400 mile round trip run to pick up another broken down car. Cruiser can handle the towing duties, but it's slow and gas mileage is miserable. Car is a 4WD Honda wagon with a 5...
Please find another "mechanic" or reach out to a local LC group in your area for recommendations.
There is no OBD1 code for "manifold pressure sensor", considering there is no manifold pressure sensor on a 3FE.
What @Godwin posted is true, and...
The 3FE camshaft gear is a fiber composite and being 30+ years old may have deteriorated to the point it's no longer solidly connected to the camshaft.
Drove about 500 miles over three days towing this load, a 19' Carolina Skiff loaded with turtle traps. A heavy load. Most of the driving was interstate at 65+/- with mileage running ca. 9-10. This is about what I had expected. Also had the AC...
2,600 miles to ouray and back. 13-16.6 mpg depending on whichever way the wind blew.
Zero issues. Kept pace just fine.
I really like the 2F in this truck. 361,000 miles on the original bottom end.
Still needs the 12HT but I want to move into...
Back in the old days was the 3FE mailing list comprised of FJ62 and FJ80 owners. I was the odd one with a 3FE swapped FJ60. Frequently when someone would post that they were having wonky fuel issues the FPR was the culprit. Symptoms were seldom...
I would return for a full refund. It's a mix of years and when you, or your mechanic, need parts that's going to be an issue. If in a few years your infatuation with it wears off and you try to sell it you'll likely loose money. Get the refund...
As much as I’d like to mess around and fix it, I’m out of time. I have to get back to Austin for work and this is the safest bet for me at the moment. I’ve broken down too many times on this trip to chance it at the point. I’ll get it running...
Have you ever replaced the fuel pressure regulator? Part no. is 2328061010 but the FPR is NLA, so aftermarket is the only option. Something to consider.
The door & handle appears wrong for a 78. Doesn't look like a 30K rig to me. I would take the buy back and look for a better rig without issues.
Paper work is such a PIA - its all BS and Bluesky until it actually gets sorted out if ever.
Clear...
I got completely derailed again.
My wife's twin brother passed away down in Honduras (Roatan more specifically; and thank goodness it wasn't on the mainland... mighty dangerous over there for gringos).
A Mud bud (former 3 letter) instructed...
Over the past two weeks I've racked up ca. thousand miles. The cloth manual 4Runner seats are more comfortable than the electric leather Lexus seats. This week the LX450 was a tow rig for a 15' aluminum boat and handled this job well. The boat...
