Decided a 900 mile test drive to Johnson Valley was a good idea.
Heater hose on the firewall was left loose by me. So coolant dripped into the wire harness and was blowing the efi fuse. In Victorville.
After that no issues.
I helped crew for...
The roads were BRUTAL. keep a couple of these in your parts box, kids. Like I said, this is the best place in the universe to have to be “stranded.”
Re-tapped the threads for the 4 bolts that hold the stone tray beneath the belts, they were a but chewed out but the tap made em good again and used new M8x1.25 bolts so no more rattles !
Then went for a day trip up to Craigs Hut and cooked up a...
Today was new carpet install day…my favorite day said piglet…
Naturally you don’t just rip out the carpet and put in the new…many little while I’m in there tasks were completed…
That said Toyota sure covers the bases with thier parts…this carpet...
Your previous go around wasn't a rebuild, more like a minor refresh, the valves looked ok so they were left alone. Rings were put into a honed cylinder instead of bore and new pistons and rings. When I did mine it was a 'partial rebuild' which...
Be careful with the cleaners, they destroy the rubber compounds and will cause the casings to severely crack over time. Used 409 on my BFGs years ago, within 6 months I had to replace them. The purple power and simple green may have already...

Finally getting around to the round eyes front end swap. Trying to get Bruiser ready for the Offroad Games next week. Bondo is not my strong suit, final paintjob should mask most of my crap. Enjoy!
I was working on a few things yesterday and had the passenger front fender (and snorkel) off and I noticed these cracks. I assume from body flex and making contact with the snorkel inlet where is passes through here to the airbox.
I welded up...
i've owned both -at this point several 80's and 100's and the 80 is truly from a different generation of Toyota build quality.
The 100 wins all day long in power, comfort, climate control, and safety .... but the 80 is just a simpler machine -...
^^^^^
Yeah they left the ALTERNATOR for that. ;)
Put it at the lowest point they could find. Right below the Power Steering pump/reservoir....so IF that leaks (as they all do eventually) it gets oil soaked and ruined.
And where is an...
Define reliable. Total maintenance cost to keep on road? Ease of repair? Unexpected breakdowns assuming all service performed? Ability to limp home? Etc.
100 series are newer at this point so how do you even compare?
OK, so here's the basic concept for an automatic CDS fan that will only start if the ign key is on.
It will continue to run after the key is turned off, until the pressure switch opens.
Thanks to some extra relay logic though, the fan will not...
