Fire damage takes a while to resolve the forest. Were the trout streams silted up or have they had time to clean out the silt? I flew a Bell 212 on the Yellowstone fires fighting the fires that really damaged the forest and later flew the...
Trailered Otis the ’76 FJ40 home to Utah on Saturday after a smooth purchase in Steamboat Springs, CO. On Sunday I had to introduce him to the Utah mountains.
First attempt on my replacement data plates...not the results I was hoping for, but a decent job for laser etching (tho they forgot to add the Oct and the correct VIN on the door jam plate). Price reflects the quality. Have another shop working...
My ‘67 was originally Spring Green also. Do you think it would sprout little beer nipples if I returned it to it’s original color? Asking for a friend.
I travel to Knoxville Tennessee 1week per month for work….However, there is ample time to check out local ‘watering holes’…..the 67 FJ40 caught me off guard…and with the taps hanging out the back….i had to stop in and get the story.
From the...
Got the tires balanced yesterday. The wobble at 50mph is almost all gone. So much smoother driving on the highway. Mechanic said the shocks should be replaced so that's next on the agenda
This is the mantra I used also...
"go out for a while and get something, anything, done"
even if it's just cleaning up and organizing or looking/planning/pondering.
Yep, lots of problems to solve and get creative with. Lots of great info here on mud, but every project is unique based on the rig, the owners goals and skills.
I am pretty spoiled in that I've been working on cars and motorcycles most of my...
Now for a little redemption =)
I went ahead and cut/hammered a 4-speed cover, brand new, from Topnault (Chinese manufacture). This was a 1 banana job so far. All I needed was a BFH (big fuggin' hammer) and an angle grinder.
My transfer case...
This beauty of a 1967 FJ40 was spotted in Marysville, TN….the owners own Swara Taproom….the beer is cold, the service is impeccable.
On special occasions, the beer taps on the Cruiser can accommodate.
I also want to add I completely jinxed myself with the "great, no issues, no leaks" claim.
Came home today from an errand, smelled bit of burning oil while driving but didn't think much of it as it passed.
Got home and parked on my brand...
I remember reading Reddingcruiser’s threads when I was doing my 5.3L conversion; he said just accomplish one thing every day. Every bolt is progress, and man is it worth it when you’re done.
At 70 mine runs at 2100 on 33’s, 4.10 gears.
I’m in the middle of the same swap. 5.3/h42
It’s been kicking me in the nuts recently. I’m so looking forward to actual progress.
But every bolt is progress
I moved my battery to the driver side, used the factory tray with some modifications. Bolted to frame using two bolts and to the shock tower using the big bolt.
Getting close to having the axle all ready to rip. Ended up just drilling the round pinion flange to match my existing driveshaft. It took forever, but was the free option. Just couldn’t justify a few hundred on a new shaft when the plan is 12HT...
