Installed a wonderful product from @shipmag today. Came in the mail cross border super fast.
Installation was all of 5 minutes and the look is so much better. And much less leaky. :)
Out with the old
And in with the new!
Sorry to revive an old thread, but this is the one that pops up on google when you search this part number.
The listed year interchange appears to be wrong. I ordered a 46410-60100 for my 100k mile Oct/83 FJ60. Noticed that my axle housing was...
Yep so that's 7 datapoints. Haven't seen a single 84 with the early parking cable as described by the interchange. So I'm thinking the interchange is wrong because what are the chances we all had swapped axles? My brown 84 was with the same...
Good info, Ian, and I think you are right, Jim, it may have been 83+. I also thought maybe my axle had been swapped but there is no way. Probably has more to do with model year changes and the assembly line getting parts for the coming year...
The listed year interchange appears to be wrong. I ordered a 46410-60100 for my 100k mile Oct/83 FJ60. Noticed that my axle housing was for the later style cable 46410-60101.
Weird, thought maybe my axle and cable were swapped? Went and checked...
When I replaced the suspension on my previous 60 - it was an 83 model with a build date in very early 83 I think - I ran into some goofy stuff with it having some features of a later "84+" axle. It was such that I started thinking somebody had...
Finally fix the chronically leaking exhaust pipe flange gasket on exhaust manifold. No matter what I tried it always seemed to start leaking. Sometimes sooner some time later, some people might think this is extreme but I was over it.
Yep , Man...
Closed on 20 acres so spent some time to cut in a road to get the HJ back there. Chainsaw decided to bitch out so I used a bunch of snatch blocks, my winch, and that Japanese deisel to just pull trees out of the way.
I took off my wheels and painted them black. They only came primed and they had faded a lot. Also took off the spare tire carrier and basket to grease the spindle they open on.
(apparently my iphone takes too good/big of pics so having trouble...

shameless plug, but my 60 is much nicer than that and is also for sale. I am open to negotiations on price.

@Jason YY Agree with the above assessment of mileage and dormancy. I bought a 60 with 124,000 miles on the clock that had been sitting garaged for four years. I trailered it home and guess what? It had 2 quarts of oil in it instead of 8. Lots of...
As someone who went through the same journey as you OP, I went the 60 series route. Some things I learned:
1. Do not compare a 60 series to a modern vehicle. You will likely be disappointed.
2. Test drive one. Test drive will likely make a lot...
Rented a wet vacuum and finally got around the cleaning the seats and taking all the old oil/grease and Manitoba dust out of them. Let me tell you, what a freaking difference. Feels like a new truck now.

You will want to get inside the birfs just to check the bearings anyway. Rebuild kits are not that expensive and lots of tutorial here. Dirty job, but pretty satisfying when complete, and not as complicated as it looks.
Power steering gearbox reseal is underway while I wait for news from the machine shop. the steering box on my truck is bleeding all over the place. I got one of the last few seal kits in the world from what I can tell. Rock Auto has a Gates kit...
