Yep. I have the dealer installed ND unit in mine. Thought I'd use is alot more than I do but I rarely use it. Occassionally turn it on to keep the passenger happy until their knees are too cold.
3_puppies/Paul is great and will give you sound advice on this, especially for the local market. I saw the mostly garbage responses you had on the local facebook from people with no idea what they were talking about. Nice truck, I'm kind of surprised I have not seen it around town.
Nice thread - pretty funny because they are all spot on.
"The previous owner did . . ."
"Normal rust and wear and tear"
"diamond plating for protection"
If it's really stripped and you want to repair it rather than rely on FIPG to hold it, timeserts are one option. See: http://www.olympiafj60.net/timesert-drainfill-plug-repair.html
This question has come up several times before - check out Poser's response to several threads recommending Caterpillar 5P-0960 (Advanced3Moly) grease. It's relatively inexpensive at any Caterpillar dealer and is good stuff for the knuckles, tie rod ends, etc.
The FSM simply says to grease all the parts, then tighten the large nut/cover down and then back it off 1/4 turn. After that, tighten the small bolt to lock it down. Sometimes 1/4 turn is too little or too much and can use adjustment. I had one that still moved horizontally with a new Toyota...
Before you throw money at parts that may not need replacing, as was previously stated by several folks in this thread, have someone sit in the rig and steer while you watch the steering/suspension parts. You should be able to see any slop in the drag link, rod ends, steering box, etc. I would...
X2 on what Firestopper said above and Canarias' comments on the steering damper.
Either a center arm that is too tight and not lubed or a sloppy, not properly adjusted center arm will cause the type of steering problems you suggest, as will a number of other things. Best to take it all apart...
Just wanted to wrap this thread up. I ended up taking the second new and leaking Vista Pro heater core to the radiator shop where it was tested to confirm it was junk. They pulled it apart and reassembled it correctly, pressure tested it and it is working great with no leaks.
I'd recommend...
Paul -- sent you a message. I see alot of the places that usually have the cores, like Napa and O'Reillys can't get them even though they show in stock on their website. Wonder if vista pro quit making them and those that are currently showing up are questionable remnants. The second one I...
I need a new heater core for my 82 FJ40. My original core leaked a little. I reviewed old threads and there were many references to using a Ready Aire/Vista Pro aftermarket heater core, but I've purchased two of those from different retailers and they leaked worse than my original core right...
Actually it shouldn't be all that difficult to locate the smog equipment as the '82 40 series uses most of the same parts as the FJ60 series. You're likely to get a decent deal on these parts by buying the 60 series parts. Hooking it all up is another story. Sent you a PM with some...
