I'll dig through my receipts and try to find the exact bulbs I got. I know there were no modifications needed at all, but my bulbs are a cool white color. I did the dash cluster bulbs, turn signal indicators and the high beam indicator. I also...

Nope. No modifications to the cluster at all. Just white LED replacement bulbs and it is AMAZING. So so so much better than stock incandescent bulbs. I can actually see the high beam indicator light now too.

It's been a bit since I posted so thought I'd throw this up. I got the new LED bulb from SUPERBRIGHTLEDS installed last night. It's crazy how something so insignificant can make such a difference. The green glow of "LIGHTS" on that switch...

1971. I got it from the second owner for $5. It had been sitting in a garage since 1984. Really solid original car. I've installed new interior/carpet and am finishing installing the new cloth top. Fun little car that's got all the cool...

@MOTOV8R That's the kind of information I knew someone would have! I'll mess around with the wire to the fuel sending unit and see if I find anything. My fj40 has a second fuel tank that was installed at the dealership when new and that tank...

I agree and have a few vehicles that have similar results with the fuel gauge. THIS scenario with my FJ40 is different, in that the fuel gauge works fine showing the correct level of fuel, but if you watch the needle it will randomly start to...

So here's what I'm confused about. It looks like, to me, that the temp and fuel gauges are not connected per this wiring diagram. If any gauges should be affected in unison it would be OIL and FUEL (the pink line). From what I see on the...

Thanks for the quick responses. @peesalot Mine is the older style. I don't recall seeing any type of circuit board behind mine. I'll pull my cluster (after I disconnect the battery @charliemeyer007 ) and try to trace out the power. I hadn't...

Is your gauge cluster a circuit board style with big plug for wires or the older wired type ? If it is the older type I would suspect the power jumpers are loose or bad connections behind gauge cluster, slide it out and follow the power input (...

I can't believe it's been 1.5 years since I brought this up. It's still an issue that I'd like to fix. As stated above, on my 1973 FJ40 the fuel and temp gauges work most of the time but will randomly "lose power" and the needles will slowly...

The rain spared me an hour and I jammed outside to try getting the two stuck plugs out. This took many steps to complete, but first I drilled out the plug as much as possible. Second, I dremelled out as much as I could down to the steel threads...

Good thing you installed the lift on the FJ40! At least the seats should stay dry. I hope you're able to keep the house dry too.

Wow...what a great thread. Lots of good, practical information. You've got yourself a real beauty there, and it's obvious that you're treating her right. It's motivating me to step it up on mine. Now I just gotta figure out how to afford the...

Thanks Mark. You can disregard the voicemail I left you today. 😄 The carb is still working great and I will just continue to be patient when I wake her out of slumber.

Very, very normal. RFG is more oxygenated, which is most of the problem, as well as being ‘lighter’(less likely to clog fuel injectors), which also makes it more prone to evaporation. Not a big problem in a ‘closed’ EFI system. as I tell...

Same here — that’s why I sometimes read the Sniper fuel injection threads. But, the cost is too much for me when I can just try and be patient starting the truck 😀

It’s escaping me but someone here is modifying the vac retard can to turn it into a vac advance. (Might be @4Cruisers like @Catching Neutral tagged). There’s cheaper ways than a $400 unit (like a used vac advance distributor). I think a DUI...

Thanks for the input. I assumed it was normal, since it runs so well once it fires up, but I figured I'd ask just in case there was a simple fix.
    • A
Yes Mark did install the vacuum port when he did my carb so it's ready to go. To test for "play" do you simply pull the cap and see if the rotor moves back and forth? What is acceptable "play"? I've been considering the Pertronix since I got...

I just posted for advice on upgrading to a factory vacuum advance distributor and it got me thinking.....I have another question about my 1973 F155. Mark rebuilt the factory 1973 Aisin and did a great job....it runs super nice. My only question...

My bone stock 73 FJ40 runs/drives great. It has a Fairey OD that was installed at the dealership when purchased and it makes highway speed very comfortable. The original F155 has great compression on all cylinders, excellent oil pressure and...
