Just for the record, you probably want to avoid giving this "friend" access to your girlfriend / wife-unit, investment or bank accounts, along with anything else you might value.
Feel free to show him this thread. 😁
If you have a temperature gun, you can also compare temps across your wheels and brake rotors & calipers to see if you have a dragging brake. Also, check that your Parking Brake lever is completely down and not dragging. Apart from that, take a...
Have you worked on anything under the hood or dash recently? Most times, these are due to shorts in wiring harnesses that require immediate attention. The HOT relay that you removed - do you have any spares you can swap in to see if thats...
Radiator, Radiator Cap(s), water pump, thermostat(s), Radiator Hose sets, Toyota Red coolant - if that's what's in it now. Apart from that I'd also get some spare common Relays and blade fuses to have on-hand.

Please welcome our newest member Charles (#670) to CopperStateCruisers.

Yup, mine is the $15 air compressor filter from Home Depot. Only holds about an ounce but does the job!

Catch Cans are stupid simple, but people like to make $$$ and customers like shiny new things. Just get the inline plastic filter with stainless screen element from Summit or wherever and cut your existing vacuum hose going from the top of the...
I think the oil consumption on any of our LandCruisers is a combination of Valve Stem Seals, PCV and blowby past the rings due to high RPM operation or under heavy load, or both.
Personally, I'm a bit surprised at the oil catch can which needs...
1FZFE, 330k miles roughly, often drive 75-80 on interstate and on other trips tow a 3k lb trailer (stay around or under 70 then). Run Rotella 15w40. Have never added oil between oil changes (6k mile intervals) in close to 100k miles of driving...
No idea. Just feel lucky that I noticed it before that last one came loose. Knuckles are full of moly grease. Seals are a couple years old(along with the rest of it). Just barely dripped any.
Think once the new hardware is in and torqued up...
I run 20w50 Castrol since engine rebuild (*I live in the desert) and took the truck on a 1,300 mile trip from PHX to SD and had to empty the oil catch can every ~500 miles - every other fill up - back into the oil filler at the valve cover. I...
How does that even happen with the fingers of the keepers still in place? Did the stud unscrew from the hole AND the nut, such that the nut then just fell away?
...and your balls are dryer than a ghost fart (*don't take that personally)!
How fast were you trying to go? It matters. These things burn oil the faster you try to push it; the sweet spot seems to be about 60mph. Any faster than that, and I'd expect higher oil consumption, and I'm on a fresh short-block rebuild with 25k...
Almost? Do you have to be 21 to vote in Arizona? How about wait 'til 2027 and buy it a shot.
@fj80T I played around with 10k and 15k oil, and I felt 15k was too abrupt - the 10k is still variable. I'm actually thinking about backing mine...
Open Sesame
Have someone push down on the hood (with good force) then, while they are pushing down, pull the hood release. Hold the hood release and then have them lift the hood.
