If that is just the axle tube with a steel sleeve in which the bearing gets pressed, I'd say clean it and get a new bearing in there and you should be good.
I had a simillar issue years ago on my gasser. Turned out that aftwr doing everything under the sun to get it to idle right, it was seafood that fixed my problem...
Found some switches. Filled the holes. Will eventually reassign them in time.
For now, they are just there for one single purpose, and that is to fill the holes.

The bezel arrived. Looks good. Will test fit this evening to check alignmentof holes and such. Came out real nice, and the finish is primer and paint ready.
