We’re so back.
This is the same 9inHg I had before but at 750rpm rather than 900 - so this is even better. My theory is that the vac nipple on the back of the carb was leaking the whole time, but then yesterday it must have gotten jostled...
Ok … took stuff apart and found one of the four brass vacuum fittings on the back of the carb was loose. These are press fit at the factory when Aisin made them. Those particular one is for the decel fuel cut system and I verified it ports to...
I have a spare carb on hand that’s ready to go, and I’m getting fairly good at rebuilding them myself too. I actually find it pretty enjoyable! I have all those spares and those travel with me. There was a thread recently about the spares people...
Couple of things.
Squishier brakes: Your vacuum readings are lower than the worn out stock motor was giving you. Less vacuum equates to less brake boost. As the rings seat in vacuum will increase and braking should improve.
Changing valve lash...
Got the driveshafts, hood, skid plates, and interior buttoned up yesterday and drove 1.1 miles. Truck fires up and idles great until it doesn’t - it intermittently wants to die unless my foot is on the gas. Vacuum gauge is reading a whopping 5...
Yes, I know him, or knew him at the time of the sale in 2005. He had to sell The Turtle because he and his wife had another bun in the oven and they needed a comfortable family vehicle. IIRC he bought a Scion. He told me that he'd probably never...
No embellishing yet, but I'm glad you think so. That'll make the rest of the tale seem more believable. The lying begins when I have to write a sanitized version of the end of this chapter.
Forgot the Pics
My editor says I forgot the pics. Sorry. I think some things are better left to the imagination but what the heck...
Rabbit Ear sign, and angry Mom. Looks like she lost her apron.:grinpimp:
Heavier Than Air Tech
Don't know how I missed this...Thanks, but Capt. Donato and I aren't on the same page.
He's correct of course, but why fly a bigass tanker the size of a 3 bedroom house when you could be having fun like this...
Lynx...
Darn this makes you think
Commander,
This thing has everything, smiles, memories, tears...oh and tech. I haven't read much lately that reminded me of some of my life, some good and some bad...the writing is outstanding ( never knew Squids...
Hard men have difficulties with words and may never be able to say something they really want to say, even after years of "hearing" themselves say it in preparation. Lee where I'm going with this is you may have to look for these simple words...
I do have a Keen lyric in mind for the epilogue. Thanks for saving it for me. And  back at ya.
She'd have said the same of you, and all my Cruiser friends. She knew many of you by name. She'd have loved you guys.
Yeah, I had the same...
Lee, that is the best post yet and the above replys show why. I've seen it said on this forum many times....it's not about the rust and metal it's about the connections and life long friends and experiences we have, and can recall, in and around...
The Kitchen Table
This chapter has little to do with Land Cruisers in general or Uncle Meldon's 40 in particular. It has everything to do with the journey. Feel free to skip if you're expecting tech, drama, or humor. There's none of that here...
There ain’t gonna be ANY towing going on with this vehicle haha! Sustained constant rpms is definitely something I’ve heard to stay away from, so I’ll definitely do that! I wish there was a big hill near my shop, but sadly there isn’t. Maybe I...
Hey Jim, I can still climb up into Bart and push the brake pedal hard enough to stop when needed. Took the 35s off a couple years ago and leave trails like the Rubicon to younger drivers now. No walker yet.
