Pull up a chair, this will be a long one. Today, I was laying under the 1993 80 waiting for the slow drip on the oil change to achieve whatever slow cadence I've used over the decades to cue reinstalling the drain bolt. My wife pulled up and I...

Got the body painted on Sunday. It's definitely red but I don't think it's too red. Got all of the other panels, fenders, doors, etc painted today! Feels good to have this done with. Gonna wait a while to let the paint dry before I start...

After putting it all back together....I sat in the cab, turned the key....click. Again...click. Battery load tester: 400CCA on each battery. Out the door to Batteries Plus at 4:42pm, in their door at 4:57pm (they closed at 5!), and home by...

Got some new wheels for the bj74 project aka patina turner. Truck came with 75 splits basically as rollers. Cool looking but too narrow and don’t want to run tires with tubes. I was on the hunt for fj cruiser steelies specifically since I’ve...

Been doing some bondo here and there where I used a stud welder to pull out some dents the troopy had, the circles in the metal thats left behind would look noticably bad. Also bondo'd some of the wheel well that I rewelded as it was quite wobbly...

Day 3, rest of the trip after the trail, Since we were ahead of schedule we decided we would take the lower poison road and go out yalokom and head back towards the coast. Find some where to camp closer to nahatlatch. But yalokom had other...

Always a good day when packages from Japan show up. Amazing these parts are still available. Hopefully this one lasts another 30+ years and almost 600,000kms. So nice to have that part new. Everything works so nice. Thanks...

Alright well, my air compressor decided to eat its belt, which I inspected prior and it looked totally fine. Halted my progress immediately, so I tried to make this negative thing into some sort of positive bit. Organized a bunch of crap, cleaned...

Washed the bride's FZJ70 and was not in a rush so I attempted to clean under the hood. The FZJ70 is a 1997 model from Saudi Arabia that is in great shape, so I was not anticipating the results to be very pronounced ... just a getting rid of...

ALRIGHT! MORE PROGRESS. Cut out the crusty A-pillar and firewall, welded in new firewall section (excuse the gas bottle leaning against the troopy I made a little baseplate thing for it to keep it stablish) Test fitting Got that all...

One last update. My direct mount came today. I removed the stick on style arm mount entirely. Then I modified the back of it so I could bolt a standard RAM ball on instead. On the other end I bolted a ram ball where the OEM mirror used to bolt...

Refreshed the suspension on the BJ74 over the last couple days, Terrain Tamer parabolic leafs (thanks George and Roarke!), 5.8” shackles and U-bolt flip kits from MAF, & cheap and longer BDS shocks for now. I was able to clean up and reuse the...

Held the roller pins in place with grease, and lubricated the synchro generously with gear oil - apparently these can get stuck easily. I read that it's listed as a step in the latest 70 Series FSM, but it's not in the 80 Series FSM. Used the...

That's @Glenn-BJ74 @Greg_B @gofast and I forget John Voo and Ruwi's mud handles. I should have been there too but the timing just didn't quite work. I hope you made fun of their tiny little tires

Then since I was in the mood to keep on cutting I moved to the fender. The template that came with the Radius snorkel was pretty good. I cut on the small side at first and then shaved off a little at a time as I fitted the snorkel. I'm 95%...

one of the tires had no wheel weights on them and the other 4 were static balanced. dynamically balanced the 315/75/16 nitto MTs impressed with how little weight they needed only about 1.5oz per side. why run a map sensor when you can run a...

And here we are in 2025. This truck lives outside and the soft top has taken a beating from the Texas sun. The vinyl windows have clouded and I’ve got a tear in the passenger side flap. It’s still my favorite thing I’ve ever done to a cruiser.
