I have no mods. I traded a friend for for 60 in exchange for my 85 minitruck. I have plans - my last 85 mini had dual cases, 5.29's custom springs, hi-steer, etc. Now I'm building a sixty. I will have to keep the site posted on my build. I have always loved 60's and still have an 85 mini for crawlin. AZ is a good wheeling state if you can deal with the heat!

My NEW (to me) 1987 Diesel Cruiser

Well, here it is folks. I've been lurking for awhile now, trying to learn more about my upcoming purchase, and I finally bit the bullet and got it.
1987 Landcruiser, 5-speed, 6-cylinder diesel, 5 passenger totally stock (as far as I can tell) 24-volt system (I need help here!!!) and lotsa rust. I LOVE IT!!! It'll take awhile for the wife to take to it, but I'm sure she'll come around eventually.

There is quite a bit of rust on both rear quarter panels, but I'm not so concerned with looks as I am with function. And right now, I can't seem to get the electrics figured out.

To be specific, I just ran a voltmeter across each individual battery, and noticed that one was quite a bit lower than the other (11.98 vs 12.82v). So being a new wanna-do-everything-for-my-cruiser owner, I decided to put my 12V trickle charger onto the weak one.

Well, suffice to say, after 5 hours, its still not done charging!! This is unusual to me as even the lowest battery I have (an old Group 93 from my merc) should only take 2 hours max to get topped off.

So I thought...lets remove the connection to the centre post. Which is what I did at the other battery. Well, apart from the fact that spanner slipped and gave an almighty big spark that actually melted a small bit of the spanner, the readings didn't change much.

Makes me think I have to remove that battery to charge it completely. Ideas anyone?

Beauty Cruiser! odd to see a/c on one of em thats for sure. I can't see this rust you speak of. have you looked at mine that has lived in canada its whole life? : )

oh and charge your batterys out of the rig and rotate em from side to side. hj60's never charge evenly i find.

shancerlelby, mine is Canadian too. From the receipts I had since 1987, it lived almost all of its life in the Squamish area. There's tons of rust underneath..and in the back, but the frame's solid.

Thanks for the tip on charging the battery! I did just that last night, and it was charged by this morning. Weird why it didn't charge properly in the cruiser though. I even disconnected the pos to the other battery...

About 5", they use the same lights as older garden tractors used for headlights. They were ancient and in bad shape, I ended up taking them off.
