I pulled the engine out of my 1984 FJ60 last weekend. It has 264K on the Odometer. The PO said he replaced the head gasket and had head work done since it was overheating. It ran great before I took it out. It is going into my 86 FJ60.
Now that I have it out, what should I replace? The power steering pump leaked and there is oil all down the drivers side of the engine. When it was running I could not find any leaks anywere. The gasket to the heat exchanger is blown. The rear main seal weeps and there is a washer glued to the back of the head on top of the frost plug. The compression is good but should I do a set of rings? I cannot believe that this is the original engine or that it has not at least been rebuild already with 264K mile on it. The oil pan gasket has black looking RTV silicone sealant. is that stock Toyota stuff?
I do not want to have to pull this thing again in 6 months.
