This was a frame off restoration about 10 years ago. The original body was replaced by a full fiber glass one and then custom painted. The original hard top is MIA and it was replaced with a black Smittybilt Soft Top and Doors. This has the original late model F motor (upgraded oil system that the 2F received) that was rebuilt with aftermarket headers, dual exhaust and a webber carb. New member, first post.
I am looking for a BJ40 post 1977. I am not a collector, just looking for a decent Sunday driver and something to work on. My budget for the initial purchase is around $20k. I own boats so I understand the "hole in the ocean" concept. I have been looking around for awhile just to get a sense for what is available and I think I have my expectations set appropriately for what $20k should buy me. I am looking for something as close to original as practical given the age of these vehicles rather than being beautifully restored. Vehicle location is not too important given shipping costs these days.

As a result of a recent referral (thanks Owen), I just consigned this 72 FJ40 which you will NOT find on CL or eBay.
I have not seen the truck in person but seems like a fair price for what appears to be a good truck. This was a Father & Son project that spanned several years. The truck is reported to be a low miles example that was used on a farm however like so many FJ40's the odometer is non-op. She always had wanted one and she used to see my 79 at her son's place all the time when I stopped by. So she saw this one with a for sale sign in it and chased down the owner and bought it on the spot. The guy she bought it from said his son bought it on the west coast and had it shipped back east so he could restore it. Then lost interest and it just sat in the garage. Unfortunately nobody took any pictures of it at that point. When I first saw it I was amazed at how solid it was but the body was a little rough. My friend took the roof and nose off, removed everything from the interior, and shipped it off to his paint guy...
I have a solid 71 fj40 up for sale. It is a rust free cruiser. I bought it with the intention to finish it and give it to my wife. Life got in the way so it must go. It has a fresh small block chevy 350, turbo 350 tranny and a twin stick transfer case. None of them leak any fluid. I was told when the engine was rebuilt the tranny was too. Fluid looks great and doesn't smell burnt. I bought it from a guy who wanted to do a frame offor restoration, but didn't have the time/knowledge to complete the project. He daily drove it to take his kids to school and to work and back. With only a few parts it will be a daily driver again. It needs a new wiring harness, steering g wheel and steering g linkage.

After moving my "project" several times and wrenching on it infrequently. I have come to the realization I am not a FJ restorer or project guy. My loss is your gain. This FJ has been in the family for more than 20 years.
I got it running, rebuilt the carb, changed out the distributor, changed out the front drums for disks, and put new shoes on it during my tenure. It drives but is not road legal unless your state is happy with hand signals. It is currently not registered for road use.
I am sad to see it go, but I can no longer face the shame of walking into my garage and having it mock me. This Beast needs a home where it can roam. I am no longer able nor have i ever provided that and it deserves so much more.

Posting for a friend. This truck was a plow truck in KY and has all the rust to prove it! Let's just assume the frame and tub are shot. The odometer reads 46K and change and could very well be accurate given the way the dash looks. The dash pad appears to be excellent and the cluster and glove box doors look nice as do the controls on the dash. The headliner is original.
There is a factory PTO winch on the truck. It's all there with the exception of the barn doors in back. The seats are solid. The truck does run and was driven on and off a trailer.

I moved to England several months ago and left my 40 in the states since it was undergoing a frame off at the time. I miss it and Toyota in general, I have a Lexus here but doesnt feel the same. Does mud member know of any FJ40s for sale in Europe? I have been looking but cant really find anything that isn't fairly decent for around $10-15K.
Any help looking is greatly appreciated.

I want to get back into something fun, been looking at various craigslist ads for broncos, fj40s, and 66-72 suburbans. With a baby on the way I refuse to fall in that same loop of getting a family friendly wagon :p. I ditched my 84 FJ60 and I'm looking to build a daily driver. With orders possibly back to CA I don't want to relive the hassle thus my need for 75 and under!
Looking for something better off mechanically than cosmetic. Everything is up in the air right now so I'll say I want to spend around $6-7k but willing to add more for better off examples.

I'm sure everyone will open this to see who in their right mind thinks their truck has 4800 original miles... well, I thought the same thing when my buddy from Red Lodge, MT called me to tell me that some friend of his that own a hotel going to sell an FJ40 they have. Here is the background on the beauty...
It was bought new in '65 by the Yodeler Motel, who put a plow on it and used it to plow their 30 parking places at the hotel. He told me that it never left the hotel lot other than for services. I did a little checking around, talking to other Red Lodge residents who all say that is a true story. The hotel was sold several years ago and the new owners purchased a tractor to plow the lot. I'm not exactly sure what happened but...
We had this truck up for retail and it got totaled on a test drive. Title is clean as we did not claim it on our insurance.
