I saved it from the recycle center a few years ago from an old scientist at work. He just wanted it to go to somewhere that might be able to use it.

I should build a shack in the woods.....🍿👈🏻

Absolutely 💯….But, do not under any circumstances take advice from me. No pointers, no tips or design advice.
In fact, just block me now, I won’t be offended….. 😉

More on the story ref: The barn.

I thought you would appreciate this considering your “Cook Shed” project. The dozer operator tasked with the demo, had already turned the structure into a life size game of pickup sticks before CB arrived to pick through the carcass. He salvaged what he could (safely) and managed to rescue a small section of the timber framed barn. It’s now enjoying a second life as a piece of living art in Ohio.

this is what you show people if they ask if your religious... that way they dont bug you.

Last meanderings before turning south.

Bagged, tagged and stored. Spent the AM labeling and sorting. Dollar Store totes are racked and stacked awaiting my triumphal return to Nod.

Went rooting through the loft of the little cabin to find a suitable “lure”. Trolling CB with a GI cot, sleeping bag, goretex bivy cover and a flight suit in the AM. If I can get him to “raise on the bait” I’ll lock in 2-3 projects. It’s all in the presentation. I hate to waste the month of May while I’m off trimming lemon trees and giving foot massages.

Hoping CB will agree to finish up the bathroom and fireplace while OCB is tossing in a porch roof/facia/soffit. Can’t be too aggressive when setting the hook. These boys spook easy. You gotta let em run with it a little….

Repurposed a GI foot locker with plans for a second one. There’s still a cot in the loft that can be used for sleeping. Thinking about folding it up and ending that chapter of hunting camp lore. Although, I will admit, there’s nothing quite like descending the homemade hickory ladder at 0300 in the dark to conduct some pressing business outside.

I’m still keeping the lower half of the lil’ condo for emergency use and nostalgia. I reckon it now belongs to Charlie and the ages.

Two extra coats of Poly on the vanity top today.
Getting my Zen on 😆.

Glad you are boosting your emotional 401k in the land of Citrus. There is value in that. Happy Ms. Revenge is price of entry for all else. Carry on!

About that 401k….

Toes in the sand moments. Sometimes, I think “we” get wrapped around the proverbial axles when it come to those seemingly overly important moments. Getting me off of the Meade Hall project was like pulling a pit bull off of a soup bone 🍖. Once I arrived, I put one toe in the sand and that sense of “must do now” evaporated.

It’ll be there when I get back. For now, there’s a fresh lime and a Corona with my name on it. 😎👈🏻

Maintaining forward momentum.

While I was collecting sand dollars and sharks teeth, CB knocked out the cabinet doors for the pantry. Waiting on the poly treatment before mounting. Pic of the cabinet for reference. I think he’s headed out later in the week to work on the bathroom. Good to have friends. 😎

Keeping it eclectic: I have hickory bases that were purchased years ago. I think they’ll blend nicely with the new material. Going over my options for a counter top. Not critical yet. Just tossing the idea in the hopper. Laminate is the easy button with regard to the cost/effort ratio.

I’m thinking solid surface though.

Quartz? Big picture, I only need a small section and a couple of smaller pieces. The big ticket store has a pretty fair selection that won’t break the bank (I have bigger fish to fry). Regardless, I’ll let it simmer on the back burner for a little while longer before committing to a course of action. 😁

Achieving equilibrium…

I’m gearing up for the return trip to Nod. Should be breathing mountain air early next week. 🙏

Rounding up a coconspirator to dust off the momentum and reinvigorate the punch list. To date, the Hall has not moved forward. One or two mistarts that fizzled out all together due the unplanned torrential downpour(s) circa spring 26. Soft saturated soil brought down a sizable oak that needs tending as well.

OCB did manage a much needed mowing. Back field is looking pretty good. Planted Red/white clover, timothy and chicory over what I think is native bluestem a few years ago.

I have a 2-3 week bubble before my domestic obligations kick into full on indentured servant mode..😁

That lawn though...
Dang. Could have some serious voodoo croquet tourneys there.

LOL..^^^ That launched an explosion of childhood impressions. Cue up the Partridge Family and the Guess Who.

Insert fried chicken, Chuck Taylor’s, Ray-Ban’s and the uncle who owned a VW bus and lived in a commune. 😎

High tides for sure..!!!

Touched down in the land of Nod yesterday PM. 11.5 hrs on the road. My L1-L5 and I had a nice conversation for most of the trip. Turns out we have a lot in common. We both despise 11.5 hr road trips. Who knew!!??

I managed to unload the cabinets through some creative cardboard manipulation. The back field was more habitat than grass so I went on a mowing safari…

Probably won’t do any work of note until Monday. OCB is at a car auction in Columbus OH. Barrett Jackson maybe? I hope he brings us home something nice. 😁

A humble start…

Managed a couple of hours yesterday. Laying out the opening for the gas stove. The “flush mount” requires some minor surgery IOT open up the wall and build a platform. The stove will sit about 8” above the hearth. It will make more sense later 😉

The wet bulb in Babylon was bouncing off of 106* heat index. Made the call to halt ops until next week. Only one place to be.

Seems like our secret mountaintop get away is not so secret anymore 😳.

4th of July weekend..

CB dropped of the doors for the pantry.

Temps are supposed to drop next week to non lethal so I should be back on the hill by Thursday AM,

The inlays are eye popping! As we continue our move into the guest house, I know the missus has some heartburn over the painted doors on the linen closet. I might have to surprise her with some of these. 😉

I’m really happy with the way things turned out. I just gave CB a general azimuth heading and turned him loose.

Shadows of East Palestine Ohio.

The plan was to head west in the AM for a rendezvous to work on the Hall.

Fire of unknown origin broke out in a warehouse <8 miles from our house in Parkersburg. We’re upwind and west so nothing blowing directly back toward us.

The Warehouse Facility is a staging spot for chems, plastics and “other”.

Weird science. Storm front clouds moving in. Should be some interesting rain spreading East. Meade Hall is 35 miles directly east. 🙄

Fire keeps reigniting. Some chatter on the emergency band about lithium batteries.

Think I’m going to sit tight in the mountains another day or two.

Overcome by events.

Received a Meade Hall accessory kit from Mr and Mrs Mark aka @65swb45 a few weeks ago. Package arrived safely in Babylon. Unfortunately, I was dipping my toes in the sand when the package arrived 🙄 and didn’t get to open it right away.

Just before our excursion to the mountains to beat the summer swelter, I tucked the box away for safe keeping. “The great Cartage fire of 26” kept us at bay a little longer than I planned. So today, USPS box in hand, OCB and I made the trek out in the county.

Kudos to Mrs Mark for her time and amazing packing skills. 🏆

Thanks for reaching out Mark. These items will be on permanent display in “The Hall”. Can’t figure which piece I enjoy the most. The Cracker Tin strums a cord in the childhood memory category and the lantern will take up residence on the little cabin porch.

Opened up the outer wall today for a test fit. Early indications are positive. 😁 Flush mount is the right call.

Afterward, stopped at a big ticket store for a last minute proof of concept. I’ve had this aggravating slice of idea in my head. The “fireplace” material has been the subject of debate since I roughed in the mantle.

Decided to give a wink and a nod toward an ole’ timey hearth. Definitely going earthy. Pulling colors from inside/outside the hall with a wink and a nod toward the eclectic azimuth we’re on.

I’ll post pics tomorrow.

Where there’s a will..

If you take the way back train to last fall you’ll recall I planted some fruit bearing trees at the north corner of the back yard/field. A late blooming spike buck took out his frustration on two of the peach trees before I could wrap them in some corrugated plastic armor. I wrapped them post hormone frenzy and hoped for the best. Early this spring it was apparent that the peach trees were not going to bloom. I made a mental note to replace them this coming fall.

Yesterday while mowing I found fresh green leaves poking out from the plastic pipe..😳 While the original trunk was dead the rootball sprouted new life. I removed the armor to have a look. This is what I found (see pics below).

I must have slept through botany 101 as I don’t recall which course of action to take in this instance.

Should I :

A. Uproot and discard in favor of a new mature tree this fall.
B. Let them grow and prune all but one stalk.
C. Let all of the new shoots continue to grow and prune later.
D. Reinstall armor or leave it off so the stalk(s) can “harden”.

Hoping a certified tree-ologist will chime in and lend me some solid advice. 😁

The easy button is to simply plant new trees. But, I kind of like the idea of letting life do what life does.
