Under the moonlight, the serious moonlight.
A few months back, I came across this rolling chasis of a '79 Iron Pig. I've always loved the way they've looked, and having something that I could actually put the family in, sounded appealing. I knew it would be a long way time before I did anything with it, I was still taking apart the 60 that I bought from a fellow club member over a year ago. The 60 would have been a challenge to get it where I would have been comfortable, and even though it was a runner, I lost interest in it quickly.

And of course, life changes again, and suddenly the pig wouldn't have enough room since the family was growing by one. I figured I'd finish parting out the 60 and then do the same to the 55. Hell, I barely have over a grand invested in both vehicles, I knew I could get that back. Then a friend of mine expressed interest in the 55, and having a parts 60 just feet away with almost everything we need in it, made it awful hard to turn down the idea.

So yesterday in the span of a few hours, we got the 2f fired up and then pulled. The adventure had begun.

I'm sure that both Joe and I will be on here to pick the brains of those of you who know. As of now, our plans are to use the the engine, tranny, and tcase from the '83 and get it into the '79. I'll ask more specific questions as they come up, but feel free to throw out any advice you may have. We are unsure of whether or not to use the front and rear from the 60 or keep the 55's. That and we don't seem to have engine mounts on the bell housing from the 60. Those are our biggest questions for now.
And no build up thread is complete without pics, so here's what the 60 started out as before I started taking it apart. Enjoy.

Nice, pig!
You are going to have to build a trans mount for the 60 trans in the pig frame, figure out what to do with the pk brake, if you don't use the 60 axles. you might have to go with a small radius 7 blade 77ish fan to fit in the shroud and have some distance from the stock pig rad, depending on your situation!

Noticed the Az plates, which city are you in?

I'm out in Glendale, by the stadium.

The radiator, that will have to be addressed. The pig didn't have one, so we will have to figure something out there. I forgot about that, thanks for the reminder:cheers:

I looked at that truck online before I bought mine. Very good bones. Should be a fun resto.

that rear light is worth 300

Crappy phone pics.......

but it's something. In the few hours we were able to donate to the project this weekend, we loaded up the 2F, tranny and transfer into the bed of Joe's pick and took it to the car wash. Joe wasn't satified with the amount of gunk that remained after about $8.00 worth of the the pressure washer, so we decided to see if the guys at work would let us borrow a the bay with the steam pressure washer. Sure enough, they did and it worked great. It ended up being a lot prettier than I thought it would.

Still a lot left to tackle, and we really need to get the ball rolling while the weather's nice.

Enjoy.

you will have to drill and tap one hole? for the tranny mount and then you can use the pig style bell mounts if you want to go that route,,, to clear the radiator all you need is the pigs waterpump and fan, the 60 rad is so close a fit that you can figure out how to get it in, hold it in place on the pig and you'll see what i mean. that e-brake can be grafted together from both rigs, or you can use the whole 60 series system and swap it in the pig.

if you want to contact toddslater here on mud he can prolly send you a few pics of the 83 drivetrain i put in his 76 piggy.

p.s. put the 60 power steering box in the pig while your at it

And so it ends......

Well, Joe backed out, he'd rather invest in a house. No harm, no foul. So now I think I may part it out unless someone wants to take on the project. I'll ponder it for a few days. PM me with any interest in anything. Enjoy.

I've got 2 GSD's they are both great dogs and I will also be in Glendale for the Fiesta Bowl. GO BRONCOS!!!!

Oh, and your 55 is looking good. I found changed out my taillights to Trailer LED lights the ones that I put in aren't a great fit, but I found some just after I did it that fit perfectly.

Please think carefully before parting out a nice '79 like that. There are not many Pigs out there, and there are really not many '79's! This one needs to get back on the road.

Not trying to be an ass, but why do you need Joe to put it back together - you have us!
