i wanna go to a 4bt (its simple, its reliable, its a turbo diesel, its a cummins) but i just cant justify the soa. i just dont need it, my ome lift and 33s keep me happy...

so what im wonderin, is there a way to wedge a 4bt into my cruiser without going soa?

from what i can figure, its oil pan to front axle clearance that requires the soa right? can i massage the oil pan to clear the axle? has anyone done this? :meh:

And what to do with the oil pickup neck . ?

I'm not a definately expert, just a fan of cumins engines and read plenty of thread here about it .. seems to be posible with 4" of lift and some adjust to the oil pan ..

but at the end the 4BT it's tall ..

Talkin outa my a$$, but:

1) If the 4BT is heavier, add a leaf or two to your existing springs.
2) Plan and assemble a dry sump oiling system that feeds oil under pressure from an external tank, completely eliminating the deep sump in the pan.

If you are capable of a motor swap, either of these suggestions should be within your skills and abilities. What are your thoughts and opinions?

it looks like s*** and the first time i braked, it hit the driveshaft and gouged the pan. so he pulled it, hammered some more and patched it with spot welds and jb weld.

On a 6BT the pickup tube is on the drivers side of the pan and the sender tube runs down the same side, so the plan now is to remove the ugly pan and cut out and re-shape the pan to avoid this issue.

I do have SOA on this rig though. I would imagine if you can achieve close to 4" of lift and do some oil pan mod you would be fine.

nip tuck

I have a 6AT in a 60 with 3.5 inch spring under. We shaved and welded the deep part of the pan 90 degrees to the drivers side with good results. It has hit once or twice at full flex so a few more degrees off might be the trick. Looks like the above Pic only cleaner.

I see everything( FJ60/FJ80) with 4BT SUA but not a FJ40, So would a 4inch SUA FJ40 beable to take the 4bt?
Also taking that much off of the oil pan isnt that bad for the engine? How do you know you have enough oil....?
You could just go off the dip stick? but is that alright for the engine?
