Well I noticed rust around the factory roof rack so my local body shop quoted me $100.00 to remove the roof rack and then weld the holes shut and then shoot it with some primer.

Questoin 1.

What is a good way to remove the factory junk fuzz (heat shield/sound deadening?). I have s****ed the bulk of it out but I was thinking maybe take a sanding wheel and just grind it out? It is glued pretty good.

If you want to hold the dust down, they make those disc grinder wheels that have the plastic "fingers" on them for paint removal - just go super light, and make sure not to wrap a stray hanging wire!

You'll def have the fur flying! Maybe wet it down a little ahead of time?

Heat gun and a scraper?

Use brake or carb cleaner on glue, it will work wonders. Pull down on the padding and spray the glued parts, it should release without any scars.

Alright JROB....Gett'n after that roof!!! You're not in Texas are you???:flipoff2:

interested in more pics of the headliner removal. I am debating it and adding better insulation/deadener up there (then replace headliner).

To remove the jute stuff I used a heatgun (hair dryer) and a flat wooden spatula. Came off well. Sometimes just using your fingers works fairly well.

That's a good deal on the patch for the roof rack!

I took a wallpaper scraper to remove the jute before I installed the DynaMat on the roof, seemed to do the job, just really dusty.

what kind of tires do you have?

They are just a set of Radial LT Eldorado's that were on there when I bought the truck. They have actually worn pretty well but I am going to be movie up in tire size here sometime in the near future.

Sound Deadening

So after messing with the factory "fuzz" I found that using a wire wheel and a drill work pretty good for getting most of that junk out of there, it makes a MESS. I used some adhesive remover and a razor blade to get the worst of it out. Because of that I took some of the paint off so after cleaning everything up I spraid some primer on there to make sure there wasn't any bare metal.

Here are some pics of the sound deadening. I bought Damplifier Pro and Luxury Liner Pro.

You're gonna be happy with that stuff. I'd love to do my whole rig with that.

I have enough that I am going to tear into my front doors sometime. I just need to find the time and that is hard to do here lately.

IMHO the rear quarters need it more than the doors.

The doors at least have two layers of metal skin, plus the door panel over the inner layer. The quarters are huge open stretches of metal, with a bit of plastic for the inner panel.

Have any pics of what the headliner looks like when not installed? Im a visual guy and am wondering about removing my liner to add deadener/insulation (stinking texas heat) and a little worried I may bite off more than I can chew.

I will have to check exactly what I have on my camera... TreerootCO has a very good thread about removing the headliner and welding the factory roof rack holes up with some great pictures.
