I'm having no luck finding the proper grease for my knuckles. According to the FSM, I need molybdenum disulphide lithium base grease. I've been to several automotive shops and not one single grease tube mentions moly. Also, almost none of them mention NLGI No 2 - most are GC-LB. I've looked at Castrol, Mobil 1, Quaker State, Motomaster, Tech 2000, etc, etc. And nobody seems to have a clue when I ask them in the stores.

Please help - what grease did you use and where did you find it? I'm located in Winnipeg, Canada.

Thanks

Sean, for the moly grease for the knuckles, this is the page for the correct Amsoil product:

https://www.amsoil.com/a/Synthetic-Grease

It is designed for use in steering knuckles. It's the 3rd item, (cold weather for Canada)the Synthetic Heavy-Duty grease. The one you posted is for wheel bearings. You can use the multi-purpose for both, but for proper application, you should be using the moly for the knuckles.

Finderscuba, contact your local Amsoil rep. You can use the Amsoil web page to help you.

I went to NAPA and ordered a case of Valvoline Palladium grease (10 tubes, since they won't order individual tubes). I used 5 or 6 tubes in the knuckles and the rest gets used in the grease gun for the driveshafts and knuckle refills.

Good call - that is the stuff I bought.

I was able to find cans and tubes of valvoline synthetic moly grease at advanced auto for ~$6.00. I want to say that I used 2-2.5 cans in each knuckle. The cans have slightly more grease in them than the tubes.

Thanks for the details. I just ordered a case of tubes ($6/each) from my Amsoil guy for his next shipment.

Time to start collecting the parts and materials for my knuckle rebuild.

John Deere dealers have 3%moly grease, NLGI#2 (similar product as Valvoline Palladium), $5 cdn per tube. My local dealer have cases in stock.

Edit: $5.98 per tube, just checked my receipt.

I go out there on a weekly basis, so I can bring you some if you want. You just have to pick up from me in either downtown or at vancouver general

I believe they also have a location on the langley bypass near 200st.

I know there are a number of local Toyota dealers who used this with their knuckle and birfield service. I've seen it at any number of Automotive suppliers in the Lower Mainland, BC, but know Lordco carries it.

I used to use Lubriplate, but ran out a few knuckles ago and have not found a ready local source, so switched to the Molyslip: Lubriplate

John Deere seems to consistently have good stuff though.

What 96r50 said; Valvoline Palladium at NAPA.

Napa in Canada is different. The only moly grease they carry is lubriplate, and you have to specially order, usually takes 3-5 days.

At least this is what Vancouver store people told me.

I asked at Lordco because I didn't see it on the shelf. The guy quickly went into the back supply and grabbed me some.
