I just received my Scan Gauge II yesterday and decided to do my first write for any who are interested.

Scan Gauge II is fully OBD-II driven gauge/scan & reset engine code tool. fuel flow/MPG, etc... basically everything that your OBD-II does you can see here and then some.

See ScanGaugeII - How to Buy for details.

Only one wire to install. It plugs into the OBD-II port in the dash fuse box opening. The cable has a 90 degree bend. Howeve, it won't fit under the fuse box cover. For a "clean" install, I decided to move the OBD-II port. It needed to be moved. Fortunatly, it was held in place with 2 screws. Simply remove the screws and push the OBD-II port through the opening and re-route it down behind the dash and mount it to any suitable panel, plug in the Scan Gauge II cable (provided). I secured with a zip tie.

Part 2

Here's the plug (top left).

Next, I searched for a good place to put the gauge. The only place that it would fit is the asthtray opening. Since it only seems to collect pennys for me I decided to remove it. To do this, remove 4 screws, 2 behind cup hold or cubby hole above radio & 2 behind ashtray (must be pulled out of track first). Gently pull on trim bezel to remove. Disconnect all connectors to switches and heater/AC controls and remove from vehicle.

Now you need to trim the verticle tangs on both sides of ashtray opening. I used a sharp knife and removed a small amount at a time, in even strokes untill 1/3 of the tang is removed on each side only down from the top 1 to 1 1/2 inches. Periodically check for fitment with Scan Gauge display module.

Part 6

Secure Scan Gauge-II as you see fit. My fit was so snug that it didn't move at all. I did secure it with several small strips of duct tape to keep it in place.

Route the cable through to the ashtray opening.

Forgot to mention, unscrew 2 screws securing the ashtray track from the trim bexel before attempting to trim the plastic. This should be pretty obvious when you take it out.

Plug in everything that you previously unpluged. Gentle press the bezel back in place being sure not to crush any wiring and replace the four screws.

You will have to slightly adjust the display in order to replace the ashtray opening screws. This too while be obvious at the time.

Now the completed product!

Be sure to follow the install & calibration instructions carefully & you are done.

As you can see, the illumination matches perfectly. There are several different color combos for you LED guys including a bright blue and an orange for the Scion 1807 HU guys.

BTW - All of the functionality of this unit can only be utilized by '96 & '97 FZJ80's. Sorry other years!
I'm not sure what it's cabable of on the '95 models as they were only partially OBD-II compliant.

I took the easy route on my '96 and '97 by using the velcro strips and mounting both units on the steering columns.:p:) Good job though.

I would have just done that if I could have seen the all of the annunciators in the cluster but the Scan Gauge blocked nearly half of them.
I may mold a plastic mounting bracket that will just screw into the ashtray track mount holes and the dash bezel retainer screw holes. I'll tackle that later though.
The best part about this is if I want to replace the ashtray it's completely possibly with no adverse effects as I only shaved a small amount off. It won't even be noticible.

I would love to have this in my 95.

Anyone know what is compatible with a 95? Its a pretty late build date(07/95)

how about a '93?

There should be a sticker on the underside of the hood stating OBDII. If so, you can use it.

No. Maybe with very limited functionality, but certainly not to it's fullest extent. I still doubt it though.

Looks good. I wish I can use one in my 94. :frown:

One thing I noticed, with the unit down low like that, it will be hard to read / use while driving. I have my 2m radio in the same spot and dislike the location. IMO, it needs to be up higher, like up by the mirror or above the steering column.

If you have the OBD II plug in then it is fully capable. My '95 has the plug and I have the scangauge. Works great! Fully functional. Awesome product and probably one of the best investments out there.

fully functional on my 6/95

Thanks guys. Glad to here that it is working in your '95 models too. I guess yours were all late year builds.

As for seeing the gauge, I don't have a problem but I angled up just slightly and that helps alot.

I wanted to mount it up above the rearview mirror but I'm waiting to obtain a pitch/angle, altimeter thingy that I saw on a JDM or Australian rig online. It has the same stuff as my 1st gen 4runner did but mounts to the area above the mirror. After I get one of those I can fab a bracket for it up there and mount my compass/temp dimming mirror.

Nice install; looks very clean.

Yeah, I have mine attached with velcro to the steering column. I'm too short to see over the Scangauge and it blocks the highbeam indicator (I often forget they are on and get flashed by irritated motorists).

Another thing is that there is a reflection of the Scanguage in the windshield when driving at night. I think I may try to put a "visor" on top of the Scangauge (sort of like a Scangague baseball hat) to stop it from reflecting upward.
