hey guys!

went wheeling this weekend with a fellow mudder! mason, me, and a buddy of mine(4runner) went up to gudalupe mnts for a really scenic trail. we hadnt met until then. we had a great time. we had to ask for a key from the ranger park to get passed the gate. it was nice because we were literally the only ones on the trail. the trail wasnt too difficult but very rocky. and like i said extremely scenic. its nice to say that this site can bring strangers together and make new friendships from it. here are some pics. hope to do it again soon.

Is that on public land?

It's a National Park. Between Carlsbad, NM and El Paso, Tx. Have to get a key from the ranger station to get in off the highway. Only 4x4s are allowed in there. https://forum.ih8mud.com/showthread.php?t=176271

Hey Scott, great pics! Too bad more members didn't get a chance to make the run. Maybe the next one!

Second trip report I have read about this area......LOOKS GREAT!

Curious in the second picture.....looks like a cabin.....for public use?

This would be a great expedition run for folks......

How many days of wheeling are there....or is it just a day trip of trails.

Any wheeling beats staying home.
A friend & I went to check out a local area also in Texas and about 3 miles from my house.
Hey I just saw you are in EP too!

ive been looking for some more people in ep with an 80 to go wheeling with. you must be at the wall. im always up for that place. maybe we can get together sometime!:D

So was that gudalupe mnts state park?? I didn't know they had any trails! Any spots to camp along there, what did it take to get that key? I've been to Big Bend np too many times, I need something new!

like mason said its a national park. on this particular trail there is no camping allowed. you get the key from the ranger staion. i think there is camping elswhere on the mountain range in the lincoln national forest. i want to take a trip up there again and find some spots to camp for next summer! if you ever want to come down for that you let me know and we can make a trip out there. even a camping trip!

this trail is a day trip only. you have to return the key to the gate back to ranger station by the end of the day. i would like to get more people out there and do that trail again. there are other roads around the park i would like to explore to make a longer trip like a day or two.

good times eddie! we'll get more next time. youll have to show me the lincoln national forest next time.

Ben, you can never go to Big Bend NP too many times. You need to go with me and the Dallas group. All the real action is on Terlingua Ranch.

There's a few of us in San Antonio, Austin and Dallas that drive out to Big Bend and Terlingua a couple times a year. Maybe we could meet up for a west Texas run.

I'd be up for Guadalupe Mountains NP too since I've never been there and usually stay in the Big Bend area and close to the fravolity the border provides.

i would love to get out that way. i think ive seen pictures here on mud of terlingua ranch. looks like some good stuff. a west texas run sounds good to me!

Terlingua is really cool, and Lajitas too. Ever been in the La Kiva (The Cave) restaruant? Underground, great stakes and beer! That would be an excellent run! Now is the perfect time of year, too.

The Chilli cook off is the 1st weekend in NOV. down in Terlingua.
Thats a fun event to go to.

That's right! Forgot about it being so close! I've never been to the chili cookoff, but did do a couple of mountain bike races there in 97 & 98. It's gonna be packed, but I'd still like to go.

The first pic is of El Capitan if I'm not mistaken? We hunt mule deer in Sierra Blanca, and spend countless hours rounding big and little Blanca. On a clear day, you can see El Capitan. Nice pics, great place to wheel.

It looks like a great trip, I am sorry we missed it!

I hope to make it next time around, as for Big Bend has any body gone across the river into Mexico, i know there is an area were you could walk or swim across to get some bean burritos!

Here is were I went to last week!

I had the need to relax by the sea and explore some craters/volcanic area in Mexico1

Notice that everything around is black, it makes me feel like I am in Mars!

I hope to get to meet you all soon!

Here is a link to the rest of the pictures!
