I am looking for thoughts on my situation. I have been putting together an 86 FJ60. I had the 2F engine rebuilt by a local Co.
I finally got it all put together and two times now it has busted the pump arm off of the fuel pump. I am stumped. I have never seen this happen on any motor that I have done. has anyone seen this before or have any ideas.:frown:

I've seen it once and seen the arms in oil pans. lots of other stories also.

are you using Toyota fuel pumps? using the proper spacer? according to JimC the 86-87 2F needs a different spacer.

check in at the clubhouse section, subsection central region, MT big sky cruisers, it's our own little corner.

I was unaware of any spacer. Does anyone have a part number. This Fj60 was a basket case when I bought it. So not sure I have all the peices. Thanks for the info. I am looking forward to getting the cruiser out and running.

Order the gaskets, too. If your spacer is missing, that's why you're breaking the pump arm.

Welcome.

You shouldaa been here a year ago...

Thanks guys. I just ordered the spacer from Toyota. Thats the joy of building basket cases, you just never know what your missing. This is a $400+ lesson.

btw, use sealant on the two bolts for the fuel pump or you'll get an annoying little leak... Axe me how I know.

did you get 2 gaskets also?

I have two gaskets left over from the two fuel pumps and the engine gasket kit. If I keep making mistakes like this I will have lots of extra parts and peices. This will be the fourth time i had to pull the oil pan off. I'm getting really good at it : (
AH, the joy of the learning curve.

The gaskets come "glued"to the spacers from Toyota.

Just bought 3, for the next time my 2 week autozone pump leaves me stranded at 3am on the way to work.

I just feel like an idiot for it taking me two pumps before I reliezed something was missing.(bonehead) quess I have spent too much time building fords. Time to learn a whole new game. Looking forward to getting this rig out on the trails. I think the club is headed out the 3rd of Mar. Hope I'm ready.

The gaskets are bonded to the 81-85 spacer, and are separate on the 85-87 spacer. There's a slight difference in the shape of the two different spacers, but the holes are the same and thickness w/ gaskets is the same so I have no idea what the difference is, other than the earlier is for the 2F block, later is for the 2/3F block.

:meh:

here's the link to the thread that JimC commented on, last post. says the 85 spacer is thicker?
