Does anyone know if an FJ62 fuel pump will fit an FJ60 fuel tank? I am getting together all my parts to do a TBI on my 2F and thought the 62 pump would be a clean solution to provide the needed pressure.

I thought about an external, electric fuel pump but most people recommend an in-tank, electric pump.

The tanks are different. There is an extra removeable panel on the 62 that gives acess to the mount and pump. I made my own mount but heres a pic.

I am not 100% sure, but the FJ62 pump is designed to put out 43 or so psi, and TBI runs off about 14. I am sure people have used higher pressure pumps before, but your best bet is to more closely match the designed output of the pump with the EFI system requirements, regardless of the fuel pressure regulator.

Brett is correct. The pump puts out around 38psi which is way much for your TBI. I cut an access hole in the floor in the rear just in case I have fuel issues, because removing the tank on the trail is not an option most of the time.

Waggoner5 is that a modified stock pump in your photo? Wiring is not. I had to drop a tank this summer and at the time thought about cutting an access hole, but time constraints prevented me from doing so. Does the stock pump have hard lines attached and in order to cut an access hole and retain the stock lines, the hole would need to be quite large? Fuzzy memory here, help me.

Jim,

That's why I elected to NOT cut a new access hole. Very large indeed. There are hard lines off the pump bracket. I deeply regreted that decision a couple a weeks ago when I found my fuel rail was not getting fuel. All new lines and the pump was tested before re-install. I kept my old fuel pump bracket and in wrestling the tank back in, this must have been whacked as internal rust flakes broke loose and would not let fuel pass. I replaced the bracket and entire pump assembly, cause I'm not taking that tank out again!
Looks like Waggoner handled the hole size problem by creating unions right on top of the pump bracket. This might make it more feasible to have a topside hatch.

I used the existing hole for the pump, made my own top that held a welded on bracket which holds the pump, lines and wiring. It bolts into the existing mounting holes. I used #6 aluminum fittings welded to the topside for ease of using screw on fuel lines. The pump is a 155lph Carter electric rated at 45psi. 4 years now and now issues. I do carry a spare though.

After a little more thought I think the best approach would be to make the entire floor of the cargo area into a hatch. Cut it out slap on a long hinge, then you could easily access the pump, fuel gauge, pull the tank out topside instead of wrestling it past the frame rails, construct a hidy hole. :D Dang, why didn't I think about this when it would have been easy to do.
