The carpet in the rear of my 60 has been replaced at least once but its trashed and needs to go. I kind of like the rubber diamond plate stuff that Specter has. Its precut to fit but seems kinda pricey for what it is. Being a natural cheapskate, I grab the closest MacMaster Carr catalog figuring I should find something similar for way less. They actually have something almost identical but a large enough piece of materia, itl is almost as much as the precut from Specter. I know there must be some awesome industrial cheap mat out there. Any ideas? I'd like it to be thin enough to mount on the back of the seat and the tailgate but thick enough to be a decent sound dampener.

Wag:

Check this out. This is what I am looking at for above the rear rollout drawers that I am building. I will retain the carpet on the back of the rear seat.

I use old truck rubber bed mats, get em free from car dealerships, cut to size. I use it over the carpet on my fj60 and its great, also replace the carpet in the fj80 with it, happy.

I went to Lowe's and got the rubber floor mats that you see in a locker room; you know, with holes in 'em and they connect and s***.

cut them to fit the area and it looks pretty damn spiffy.

Although, I am not as "seasoned" as ye' pimp of the land here; so it's all preferrence.

Piece.

actaully thats what I have in the back of the green 40 :D fits perfect, also doesn't trap water. The one I used was one piece(it filled up the back) but you can add pieces to it.

see your smarter than you thunk :flipoff2:

Um, if I'm reading that correctly, a "roll" of the 48" wide diamond plate vinyl stuff from Canal Rubber is 25 yards long and costs $34.25 a yard, or $775 for the roll! :o

For the rear cargo area, you'd only need three yards, which would cost about $100 plus shipping. :D

Comes in gray, too! Hmm, maybe my 60 needs this. . . . .

I've heard of some guys using Horse stall mats that you can get from places like Tractorsupply.com

Here, I even got the link for you:

Royal Mat Rubber Horse Stall Mat, 4 ft. x 6 ft. - 2219003 | Tractor Supply Company

maybe a little too thick to tuck under where the original carpet went, but since they are thick, you could just lay them on top of the carpet and I bet they wouldn't move much.

Oh, and I imagine they probably smell a little, so I'd stick them outside in the sun for a while to air out.

I used a thick horse stall mat. I used the old carpet and cut it to fit. Best decision I could have made. Non-skid and reduced noise 80%.

I got a horse stall mat from tractor supply and has held up pretty well.

Treadmill rubber works great too. And can be had free from any treadmill sales/repair service. I usually find rolls of that stuff in the dumpster behind some places due to small rips and such. Its perfect for flooring.

It seems most places have 48 inches as their max width, I was hoping to have one complete piece.
I did find a place that sells a huge roll for garage floors for about 270 bucks! Too much though, maybe if it was split amongst a few guys...

:hhmm: I think I just found my Thanksgiving weekend project

I'm not sure if this has been mentioned before now. But I just finished a project like this in the back of my 62, I purchased the giant roll of truck liner from tractor supply company and love it. It's thick, tough and stays on place perfectly. I spent $100, but they always have coupons online for like $10 or 15 off. And their is enough left over for another car or floor mats, I will end up putting them on a fj40. You only need to cut the length as the width is the perfect size. If I remember right it's the 6x8 mat. I will look later and post I pic of the final outcome.

How thick is that stuff? Like 1/2"???

BTW the cargo areas measured roughly 4x5 ft. if anyone cares.

My local farm supply (D&B Supply) sells 1/4 stall mat by the foot, 4' wide by however long you want, for something like $4 per foot.

That's what I have in the back of my Tacoma and 60, just cut to fit with a heavy utility blade
