what all comes in the carburator rebuild kits? The FJ 40 will turn over and not keep running last time i had it running it would idle fine on half choke but when i hit the gas it would die... the spring arm near the rear thats connected to the gas pedal moves but the lever towards the middle of the engine doesnt... Isnt it supposed to? I had it sitting for a month because the points in the dizzy burned which have now been replaced. and ive checked fuel it is getting fuel.

Most carb kits come all the basic components necessary. Some have the vacuum secondary diapragm and float. Sounds like a rebuilt might help as making sure there is no rust or dirt in your tank. I can't visualize what spring you are talking about.

All kits will come with an accelerator pump.
When you say that it gets fuel, how are you determining that? Is it by the level of fuel in the bowl or by a visual check in the throat of the carb when you press the accelerator?

A photo of the throttle linkage will help us diagnose your problem.

I checked by puling the line off the outlet side of the fuelpump, and pulling the 12mm bolt and seeing alot of gas drain out of the bowl... also smell gas pics tommorrow the accelerator pumpp doesnt move when you hit the gas pedal and the slide on the back doesnt either. I dont Know what its called but it is in a half moon shaped channel

The Keyster Carb Kit. K11-374A comes withthe following:
Plunger
Needle Valve
Idle Screw
Jet, Main #135
Jet, Main #156
Jet, Slow #55
Jet, Slow #100
Power Valve
Power Jet #100
Boot
Gaskets, O-Ring, Washers and Ball Bearings

I just bought two for $22.50 each from a company in Canada. If your interested, do a search on the part number.

If your doing this I would recommend replacing the secondary diaphragm while your in there.

why what does the secondary diaphrm do?

Well I am assuming you have a 1978 FJ and it is stock (same thing I have) the secondary diaphragm using engine vacuum opens up the secondary and larger side of the carburetor to give you more power under heavy load. I would say that unless you know for a fact that it has been replaced in the last 5 years you need to replace it.

ive got the aisin carb yep well anything else cuz thats an additional part any other parts i need to gather before if basically buy my dad beer and help him do the rebuild lol its great to have a dad that is ase certified...

Get a good look at your float, if deteriorated replace and don't forget to adjust the needle valve with the float. Not difficult but extremely important...but your dad will know that. I have rebuilt mine 3 times since I bought it in 1979, the last time I used a ultrasonic cleaner to clean the body parts once I had them apart.Clean and take careful measures where everything goes.

carb dip, and you may have to modify a screwdriver to get the jets out of the bowl. Something with a thick blade, but you might have to grind the edges to get it to fit through the plug hole. You could also get one of them fancy split-tipped screwdrivers that can grab stuff instead, but definitely not necessary.
