Any pics of shock mounts with rear spring flips?

I left the top mounts in place and moved just inboard to drill a hole and weld in a (5/8"?) bolt passed in from front to back for the upper shock mounts. Ping me if you'd like better pictures. I can crawl under it and shoot some.

That pic above is sweet! Is that one finished yet?

Anyways - Don't have any pics handy, but if you're just doing a simple spring flip (i.e. spring pins flipped) - and you want the same location you can take a pair of shock mount bolts, grind off the back to match the contour of the round cross member and weld directly opposite the stock pin location - to do this it must be exactly opposite and on top of the thru bolt and welds.

If you want to inboard - highly suggest you use a gusset (I used c-channel) or do as suggested above - drill all the way thru and weld in reinforcement.

The stock tubular cross member can handle some major abuse - but only if you use the existing reinforced location, or reinforce any new inboarded location.

Savvy?

Hi All:

I run "flipped" and re-drilled 60 Series rear springs in the rear of my FJ40. this results in the rear axle being moved back about four inches.

It seemed easier to mess with the lower shock mounts than the upper ones. I have the shocks now mounted to the front of the axle tube (factory location is the rear of the axle tube.) Just had a buddy weld a couple bolts to the spring perches. These photos will better explain this mod.

Regards,

Alan

Anyone see problems down the line going with this mounting position for the lower shock mounts? Axle wrap, limit articulation etc? I will have to do this if I want to flip my rears due to Aux tank

I used a torch and when I flipped the studs I put a washer on the small end to take up the space and welded it up. If you lived close to me i would do it for you. if you have a torch and are careful its not as hard as you think.

I moved my rear diff back 5 inches with a set of custom springs. Had some high clearance u-bolt plates made for the bottom, and used some rhs, cut in half and with a bolt welded to it for the upper mount.

Couple pics.

Kyot, great idea with the sheet metal work! Looks good, mine came out great. I will post pics. Twisty did you make those spring plates? Yours looks great too.

Had a mate make the u-bolt plates for me. He is organising a group by for them for people in Australia soon.
