I know it could be done if i were to take the time to move hangers ect but would there be any benifit to doing this? i have a full set of 55 springs and was going to keep the rears for my 40, should i keep the fronts as well? better flex or something?

40/45/55 front leaf springs are all the same....

hhhmmm ic, so there really would be no benifit to doing it then.I thought they were the same but a buddy who has a BJ42 measured his at 45.5" and the 55 springs were only 41.5" from the center of the bushings but thats without the weight of the engine on the 55, thanks poser for clearing that up

I thought I read some where, that the 55 springs were the same length but the center pin was centered between the spring eyes,
and the 40 frt springs center pin was located towards the back of the spring. Is this incorrect? I was going to use the 55 springs instead of reversing the 40 springs for this reason.

Howdy! I thought the 55 rears were longer than the 40's. Someone sure bought mine in a hurry. John

The rears are longer. The fronts are the same length. The pins are centered in both.

the rears have a bigger wrap than a 40 so you have to make a different solid hanger or cut a part of the coil off to fit the 40. I did that and its been years with no problems. The rear mount drill out and turn it around on your frame and use the same 2 holes, weld it up and you are done. The 55 springs are about 4" longer which is the length of the rear hanger. What I like most about it is it centers the rear wheel. The front I just used old 40 fronts, rides nice all sprung over!

FJ55 rear springs on a 40 SOA. Shackle mount was flipped on the frame.
