I bought a cheapo Engine Stand from JCWhitney and can't figure out how to attach to my 2F block. Pictures below show stand and mounting plate that came with stand.
You said it in your intro, "CHEAPO" it doesn't look to sturdy to me.
those brackets on the ground mount to the back of the block, and i am assuming in the box the slide for the stand is hiding ?
Hopefully you have a good engine hoist and you better lower that motor sllllllllowly,
That said, I Wouldn't trust it ... Just my 02 worth,
is it safe? no. first off, three leg stands are evil...hit one bump and over it goes. you won't be able to catch it with a short block chevy (trust me, i watched a friends brother try to catch one...all he could do was buffer the fall), a cruiser block is heavier. even if you never move it, i'd be very careful when rolling the motor.
yours does have a small leg out front that will help, but not much...think torque. that much weight, that far away from the floor. you'll have to drill your own holes...f motors aren't common enough to have their bolt patterns represented. the four arms that came with the kit are for mounting v8s.
that one is on a much more stable "u" stand (look at the feet...two legs off main portion, spaced widely). i've got a v stand and even it's iffy. the blocks of wood under the pan are fine. the f motors stand well. for safety, you can hook up cherry picker when working on it. just don't put the front block of wood under the damper or pulley...make sure it's under the pan.
I tried one of those and could not make it work. These engines are way to top heavy. I bought this from Kragens. It's a 2K pound model 4420 made by Central Machinery. I think I paid $70. I felt better about something like this knowing it would be on the stand for awhile and i have young kids as well.
I think I'll still have someone nearby when I flip it.
Also, I had to get longer bolts from CAT cause the supplied ones were all short and SAE.
Longhunter; that stand is scary..........that is a very very heavy motor and with that stand; really a 3 footed stand; it could get ugly.........hate not to say anything and after feel bad after if you or one of your kids gets hurt..this is one place you need to invest a few bucks more.....my 0.02

x2 - that motor is WAY too heavy for that stand
It looks like you have their 1000lb rated stand - what I think they are not telling you is that assumes you have a short block that you are trying to work on - not an in-line 6 "tractor motor"
Be safe and get a U-shaped stand with the widest stance you can find and a 1500lb min rating
I used one of these. Twice. On the same motor. You need to weld a tall triangle where the vertical meets the horizontal plane. Mine peeled like a banana. At first when I saw it start to fall I wanted to catch it, but after a second I realized that ultimately I couldnt hold up the block so I had to watch it slowly fall to the floor in my basement.
With a long cast iron block, there is a lot more long term energy than a small block V8 at that pivot point. If you tack in a triangle, you'll be fine.
EDIT: You definitely want one that has a U or H designed base. Mine was "I" shaped and I had to do what I posted above to make it work. If you have the option, I'd suggest you do what everyone else has suggested.

Put a pice of 2x2 (if it fits) on the back end and add casters and weld two support bars up for that to the top of the stand opposite the mount plate. This should counter balance the wieght. IIRC the engine weighs as much as a V8 Chevy.
