Finally did the PIN 17 mod.

So Rob's directions were crystal clear (TLCFAQ.com) so I went for it today. Mod was easy. But I could not for the life of my get the pin 17 wire out of the harness connector plug. So, gasp, I snipped the wire and soldered on a ring terminal. I'm not the best soldering person in the world, but the splice is strong. Used marine grade heat shrink tubing to protect the splice. I highly recommend everyone do this. It's easy and adds light output when running your high beams. Now if only someone could find a way for me to run my fogs all by themselves. :-/

I looked on TLCFAQ, searched here for PIN 17 Mod, read the FAQ here and I couldn't figure it out...

It allows you to run the fog lights while running your high beams, what normally happens is, when you turn your high beams on the fogs turn off automatically.

People round here usually do this mod and the mod that allow you to run the fogs all by themselves without turning your other lights on, they also run HIDs in all of them for added output but that blinds people and im absolutely against it because of that. Sadly i dont know how they make the fogs turn on by themselves but if I know ill make sure to post it..

I'm confused? When I did this mod, I just clipped the pin 17 wire, crimped a connector onto the end of the clipped wire and attached it to the steering column screw that was attached to ground. No soldering was required. Why did you need to extend the wire?

Yes, but no need to solder new wire. There should be enough to reach the tab that the gold screw threads into. You can also search this mod and a few other more explicative posts will pop up. It is a great benefit when running aux lighting off the fog light circuit. Thanks for sharing!

I think its againt the law to have more than 4 forward facing lights on.

Sorry guys, you all are smarter than me on this forum so I thought I was the last one to do this mod. Should have explained it. Yes, I can now run my fogs with high beams on. Also, I had to solder because when I clipped the wire, it was too short to screw into the steering wheel column screw hold. Yes you do have to ground it. My wire was short, so I soldered on an extra piece with a ring terminal attached. Again, sorry for not explaining this mod.

This mod really is not for the fog. It's mainly for off-roading at night where you need as much light as possible. I did this mod so I could wire my led light bar into the existing fog light switch for my blue berry bumper..

I normally wire my driving lights to switch on and off with a simple relay for circuit driven by the high beams. This keeps me from accidentally leaving them on when meeting someone.. They extinguish with the high beams.
