Getting ready to pull the trigger on a set of sliders since all the parts to my front bumper will be here over the weekend, and I am trying to collect as much information (and avoid as much groupthink) as possible.

Contenders are (not in any particular order):

White Knuckle Offroad
Toyota 100 Series Rock Sliders

Bump It Offroad
BumpItOffroad

Slee Offroad
Slee - Toyota 100 Series Land Cruiser Rock Sliders

Rocky Road
100 Landcruiser Rock sliders, rockrails, rocker panel protection / armor plate

Are there any other companies that make sliders in the US (non-custom)?

I am leaning towards WK as they seem to provide the best value but am open to any input regarding merits/detriments of any of the brands.

Also, does anyone know anything about Rocky Road sliders? I have yet to see them mentioned on this forum.

I have heard great things about MetalTech...Shame their website never works.

Edit: I guess I had an old URL. This one appears to work fine: http://www.metaltech4x4.com/

I've been waiting / hoping to see the Metal Tech sliders for awhile now... I have their front bumper stinger kit for my FJ40 and I really like it... I know Metal Tech 80 series sliders offer some additional protection that other vendors do not... I would expect the Metal Tech sliders to be higher quality or possibly offer something additional that makes them a little pricer than the less expensive options out there...

I do recall some negatives about the Rocky Road sliders from researching these in the past... Can't remember but I do know I decided I would not buy them...

The WKOR sliders seem to be the best bang for your buck... I have come very close to ordering these but have been holding out a little longer to see the Metal Tech design...

Wow, after seeing all these options I feel like SLee is expensive.

I just threw up a lil bit...

Paul, better pull the trigger on the WKOR sliders! They are down to $540!

True, Slee's sliders are expensive. the fit and finish are exceptional though.

Or.....
Buy yourself:
Tube bender: JD Squared, Inc. - Model 3 Bender
$295

Welder: Hobart Handler 125EZ MIG Welder
$320

Pride and satisfaction of building your own: priceless!!

Fabbing stuff would be fun. However, it takes much more robust equipment than that bender. That would be ok for thin wall tube, but most of the sliders are using close to S/40 pipe. You could still buy your raw material and take it to a shop to have it bent up. Then there's the R&D of getting it all to fit right, testing it on the trail, discovering it didn't protect the truck, repairing the truck, making a 2nd set of sliders... :) I think the vendors actually provide a great value. And steel isn't cheap right now! But I agree, it would be fun to make stuff in your own shop.

The JD squared bender will handle everything you can throw at it. I know guys who have built race trucks using that bender. The thing that you don't have is the skill and knowledge to use the equipment. You can buy a welder for $400, but that does not mean you can weld....

You're gonna go through a lot of material learning to bend and notch and weld...

The $540 ones are made for poor people. (just kidding) The ones I would get from WK would be the stronger version, powder coated...$680 I think. I was doing some research today and it came down to BIOR and WK.

Here is the comparison (keep in mind that BIOR will customize to your liking):

White Knuckle:

3/16" thick x 2" x 3" main rub rail
3/16" thick x 1 1/2" x 1 1/2" square tube legs
.120" thick x 1 3/4" outer rub rail (tube) with rear kick-out
3/8" thick mounting plates (has to be a typo on their website)
60 lbs.
$680 (stronger model, powder coated)

Bump It Offroad (or BIO Offroad):

1/4" thick x 2" x 3" main rub rail
1/4" thick x 2" x 2" square tube legs
.120" thick x 1 3/4" outer rub rail (tube) with rear kick-out
1/4" thick mounting plates
? lbs
$675 (powder coated)

Slee

3/16" thick x 2" x 3" main rub rail
1/4" thick x ? x ? square tube legs
? thick x 1 3/4" outer rub rail (tube) with no kick-out
1/4" thick mounting plates
? lbs
$815 (powder coated)

Looks like BIOR is beefier and slightly less expensive.

Wanted to throw another option out there... I just ordered a set of 4xinnovations sliders from Adam. All DOM tubing, 71" long with kickout. I had him shorten the inner legs to 4" (his normally are around 6" and stick out a bit too much). $260+ shipping (IIRC). Darn good deal, just gotta paint them up and weld 'em on. He is a few weeks out on making them, so I'll post up some pics once I get them.

1.75" OD & .125" wall??!!

I have BIOR sliders and they are beefcake edition + very well made.... I've seen other options out there and I'm glad I did my homework before ordering mine....

Ok, so you think the DOM tubing isn't strong enough? I'm not an expert by any means, so your opinions are valued. I also noticed that Adam offers 3/16 thickness tubing on the 80 series sliders, so that may be an option as well. Either way, these things will be half the price of the "other" guys, a steal in my opinion. I could definitely put the $$$ towards a rear bumper.
