Zinga galvanizing paint

watrob- yes your correct that does seem high now that I look at it, I was relying on memory and that has been hit and miss of late. I figured it would have cost about $650 to do the whole frame which I would have been ok with except for the ferry costs involved. Hot dip galvanizing looks amazing when it's done and gives you piece of mind but sometimes a persons geographical location comes into play and it is not feasible.

Yes but remember one thing, it does not matter how good the sand blasting is done it never gets deep into inner chassis rails. The same when you itch prime and the top coat.

With galvanising they chemically dip the chassis which removes minor surface rust. You will save $300 to $400 on primers & paint plus the hours to do the painting. Put that money towards the ferry. Also ask them to double dip the chassis, its no skin of there nose to lift the chassis out of the tank, wait 30 sec and dip it again, just tell them you want a good coating of gal.

There must be a local trucking company that comes & goes to the island, throw the chassis on top of one of there loads, if your a local they should look after you, it weighs about 180kg, then pick it up from there depo and take it to the galvanisers, drop it back to the transport depo and get them to bring back next load.

That ship has sailed my friend, my frame is already painted and being reassembled. I did the por15 but now wish I had found out more about this stuff. As for the inside of the box frame I painted it as best as I could and before the body goes on I will spray linseed oil inside the box frame, old hot rod builders say that's a good trick to keep the rust at bay. It does to matter for my cruiser, she will be garaged and taken care of from here on in. I will Zinga the other body parts and spray it inside the doors, cowl windshield frame, etc. the usual problem areas, rust will not be an issue again.

sounds/looks really good CW ... read through the pdf's ... do you have anything that you can post re prepping the steel surface and applying the Zinga ... will it bond to an existing coating on the frame ...I've done some maintenance on my frame and just wondering about the compatibility with what's there ... if you'v answered somewhere else just point me in that direction ... thanks ...

Crescent Wrench, where did you get the quote from? Vancouver or somewhere in Washington?

IH - I got the quote from the western Canada supplier. They won't budge on the price for a gallon or a 12x case of 500ML spray cans until you do large purchases, as in by the pallet load which is like 25K and up. As previously noted I need to sit down with these people and find out what the shelf life is and other purchasing options. I also need to find out what the price will be when I buy bulk, it needs to be much better to make it worth while.

What are the prices like 47?

Price is $249.00 for a gallon or $36.95 for a 500ML spray can, plus tax, plus shipping. If I can get a better price out of them then I can sell individual cans otherwise its by the case of 12 cans.
One gallon will do your frame twice, and a whole lot of other pieces. Spray bombs are nice for inside doors and hard to reach areas. I am still learning about this product as well, that's why I started this thread to get others on the trail to finding out about this product. It does look very promising though.

Still not quite sure what makes this not regular weld-through primer. The docs say it's 97% zinc. SEM primer is 95% zinc. What do they have in the last 3% that makes it special, and makes it suitable for top coating with paint (which weld-through primer is not).

I'm not sure in what it is in the last three percent but the best way to apply Zinga is to roll two coats of Zinga and then too coat with a urethane paint doing the first two coats lightly then a heavier finish coat with 15 minutes in between

I have just purchased one gallon of Zinga primer to try, cost was $249.00Can. Plus tax and shipping to the island, are you sitting down...total was $382.93.

Yup that's for one gallon.

I will try it on my service truck over the next few weeks to see how it goes on and looks after. I will post a pick of the finished product when it's down, but at that price it better work miracles. I don't know how they expect anyone to sell this product and hope to make a profit.
On another note I saw 500ml spray bombs of Zinga selling on eBay for $56.00 Can. Yikes!

I got a sample can for $0. (Not trying to rub it in. Just sayin'). A 1/2 pint-size can. Actually just slightly larger.

Literature they sent with is very compelling. Will try it on a small piece of something.

I know your not rubbing it in Vae, it's the Canadian way to screw their fellow Canadian. We pay through the nose on everything here. Who did you go through an importer or company direct? Have you used it? Let me know what you think of it.

Looking at the prices for the 1kg and 2kg I don't feel so bad, I bought 10kg for $249. If your price are exponential it would be $380 for 10kg. I finally got my invoice and they charged me for zingasolv which is a thinner for spraying Zinga which I told her I didn't want because I want to roll it on but she sold it to me anyway. Let me know what you think of it when you try it.

I spent half a day wire wheeling the side of my service truck to get it down to bare metal. Used a seven inch Makita grinder with a braided wire wheel, after 4 hours it got a tad heavy. My gallon of Zinga arrived and I had to stir in to get it to mix, I broke the stir stick because it is so heavy when separated. After a few minutes it turned into a nice silver mix maybe a bit on the heavy side.

First coat went in smooth, goes on dark grey and almost immediately starts to dry to a light grey colour. First coat was smooth to the touch, second coat not so much. Could be my crappy foam rollers. I will buy some better rollers and try again.
