I'm selling my 1988 FJ62 and would like to know what you guys think I can ask for it. I've checked a bunch of sites on the web, and the prices are all over.

Here's the detail: 1988, 166,000 miles (100,000 on new motor). Everything runs great. New starter, trany rebuild, clean interior, some rust in the usual places (wheel wells, rocker panels). Red.

Thoughts?

You could sell it to me for $1100. I'll give you $900 though.

Actually, what area do you live in? here in DFW, if that rig was clean, I'd expect to pay around 6-7k - but that's without seeing it.

One bit of advice, have it professionally detailed before you sell it - or, if that's too expensive, wash and wax it (and when you wax the body, wax the glass, too) clean the engine bay, and shampoo your seats and carpets, and scrub your wheels and tires - use steel wool or a brass detailers brush if you have chrome rims Do the bumpers and other chrome, too. May be able to get another $500 out of it just by doing that. At minimum, you'll be able to sell it easier.

My 88 is going on the market soon. It has 110K and is in good condition. Newer paint, BFG's, water pump, etc, etc. I will ask $6500 and deliver it myself within 500 miles of the Black Hills of SD for free. Beyond that for a negotiated price.

i have bought and sold a few cruisers in the past. i like to guage my price off of what people are getting for similar setup's off of ebay. one like that would probably fetch what poser said. i would guess around 2500. even when everything is in good condition, if there is rust i drops the amount people are willing to pay. i'd ask 3000 and expect 2500. thats generous!

It is all in what your local market will bear. For example 80 series are cheap in Atlanta but expensive in Miami. Check out your local paper and autotrader. A lot depends on how soon you need to sell it. If you can sit on it for a while ask $4500 and see what happens.

make sure you post it on ebay. cruisers can go for some high prices sometimes.

i think people get caught up in the competition and overbid.

also, i think alcohol is involved sometimes and people wake up and realize how much they overpaid for an item.

i know i did this with a 26" bmx cruiser a few years back.....what was i thinking?
