These parts are no longer available. Thank you for your past patronage. If my circumstances change I may be able to make them in the distant future..... like maybe 2014/15

Hi all

This thread is for the sale of parts, sub-assemblies and complete beds for the FJ45 LPB long bed truck. The bed only – at this time I have no components for the cab or front clip, or for the short bed.

Some of you may have read my original thread, “I can make LPB box sides” in the FJ45 Owners section. In that thread I went through the prototyping of all the components required to build a long bed for the FJ45. I had made the side skins for a customer at work before and so I started that thread offering them up for sale. After several requests for other parts of the bed I decided to re-produce the entire bed assembly.

This thread will serve as a catalogue for the FJ45 LPB bed parts that I make. I will list all the parts with prices and photos to reduce the risk of anyone purchasing the wrong part – assuming I sell any :hillbilly:. I offer these parts as an alternative to the un-fun task of cutting, patching and welding or to the other more expensive options out there.

About me:
My name is Kevin and I have been in the sheet metal manufacturing industry for about 15 years. While that industry is more directed at making things like computer chassis and industrial heater cabinets, many of the skills and tools translate into what I have done here. I have a Canadian 1978 FJ45 that I am currently rebuilding into a daily driver with expedition capability. I used my bed as a template to measure and layout these parts. I am located in Calgary, Alberta Canada.

The parts:
My parts are hand made replicas of the original Toyota pieces. I faithfully follow their original design in all dimensions as much as possible. All of my parts can be used as replacement pieces on an original bed. Because I don’t have a factory full of tooling specifically designed to make these parts I have to be creative in the way I make them. This requires some welding and grinding in places. I do have access to some machinery and use a CNC turret punch, 4’,6’ and 10’ CNC form press and MIG/TIG welders to help make parts as close to the originals as I can. All of the individual parts will have any required welding and grinding done. All sub-assemblies will be welded together fully and can be incorporated into your build without and further welding.

Custom changes:
I can make the bed any length (within reason) and move the axle location where you need it. Bobbed beds or one off quad cab beds – you think it up and I’ll make it. A nominal charge will apply to cover programming and designing.

Quality:
While I strive to do the best I can, and I do use some machines, these are hand made pieces. As such they are not like something you can get at a dealership parts counter. They may require some fitment, grinding, hammering, sanding or other treatment for that perfect fit. They are also raw steel and will need to be protected from corrosion and prepared for paint with body filler on certain parts.

Payment:
All pricing is in Canadian Funds.
There will be no tax added – all sales are a private transaction.
Paypal is preferred for ease of use but requires a 3% surcharge to cover the Paypal service charges. This 3% surcharge also applies to any shipping charges I pay and then you reimburse.
Duty charged on any cross boarder shipment will be the buyer’s responsibility.
Orders over $500.00 will require a 50% down payment to cover material and the balance when ready to ship.

Shipping:
Shipping is decided on a case by case basis and is fully paid by the buyer. Depending on size Canada Post and USPS are the cheapest. I’ll send it via UPS, DHL, FedEx, Mule or bicycle – any way you want, after all you’re paying for it.

Pricing:
I charge no more than is required to cover material, forming, welding, grinding and loss of my family time as I do the work after hours and on weekends. Two parts may be the same size but if one requires an extra bend and weld it may cost much more than the other. To be honest I should charge more but I’d rather help fix your rusty trucks. I do however reserve the right to change pricing as required.

As of August 9, 2009 the prices below in post 1 through 36 are in effect

This part differs somewhat to the original in that I cannot reproduce the way the lights are recessed into the panel. My rear valence has the tail lights surface mounted as in the third photo. The earlier trucks have different lights, possibly three styles total. If you need a style other than what I have I will need a sample to change the cutout to suit.

These are quite close to the originals. The main difference is in the vertical side of the hump. The original has three large ribs stamped in it and mine has five smaller ones.
