;) (Tongue firmly in cheek here...but curious how ya'll operate...)

OK... We all understand how this goes... You buy an expensive vehicle and breathe a sigh of relief when the significant other lets you get away with the purchase.

But then... MODS... MODS... and MORE MODS... We want em...and they don't always feel the need...

So--What are your best, "But dear...we NEED THIS [random thing]" lines?

Here's one to start... Drawer System:

"But dear... If a zombie apocalypse hits... we'll NEED secure STORAGE DRAWERS in the vehicle!"

OK... the real one... ;)

"Gun laws insist firearms are safely secured in your vehicle... THINK OF THE CHILDREN!"
(So naturally, $1800 worth of ARB Outback Solutions Drawers are the ONLY answer, right??) :hillbilly:

OK. I've got Drawers covered...

Now I need lines for:

1. $2-3K Rear Bumper
2. The $1700 Winch...vs. the $700 Winch
3. $2K Front Bumper
4. $1300 Roof Rack
5. $3K Roof-Top Tent
5. $2K Dual Battery System
6. $3.5K 35" Tires/Gear-swap/bump-stops, etc.
7. $1500 light bars
8. $? Rear Lockers/Comporessor
9. $1200 Fridge
10. Stock in Exxon/Mobil? ;)

So all told, I need about $23K worth of one-liners... (Don't we all???)

Already have Wheels, Tires, Sliders, Skids, Suspension, but others may need one-liners for those too...

Help? :princess:

Why ask, just use a credit card she knows you have but doesn't check because she doesn't use it :D

The Front Bumper one is easy Thats an oldie but goodie. After that I never asked about a Mod. I talk about buying a vehicle, but once I have it she knows I am going to build it

Why sliders, if I slip off a rock I will cause thousands of $$ in damage where the investment on sliders provides a safe step for you and the kids to get in and also protection

Ya... I'm quite good at just buying things without telling her...but if I build this thing the way I built my 100, it's gonna be pretty obvious...

On the sliders, I threw in the, "Side impact protection from a stout slider could save your life!"
;)

There are a couple "twofers" in your list:
  • If you can sell her on the RTT, then you need the roof rack to support it.
  • If you sell here on the fridge or light bar or winch then the dual battery system is required since you don't want to drain your starting battery
Rather than sell my wife on each upgrade, I got her interested in the idea of doing an overland expedition by showing her a couple articles of people who drove across Africa and the Democratic Republic of Congo and renting a LC Prado (GX) when we were in Costa Rica. While we're not brave enough to attempt crossing the DRC, she got excited about being able to go far off the grid (and really dug the photos of the decked out expedition LC), so now the upgrades are a pretty sell

I told her that the lift cost about the same as OEM shocks... Do you think she was going to check... heck no! She purchased them for the 100 and had them in the garage before I got home from a business trip... same with the sliders, except I just let her drive and then had her get out and see the lack of room beneath the rocks she was going over (pre-lift)... once again... in the garage before I got home...

But honey, all of the cool kids have a snorkel!

Lol! I used the exact line

The sliders are also great in defeating people slamming their doors into the side of the truck too... my wife noticed this after noticing a nice mark on the slider at the grocery store.

Honestly, my intent behind this post was mostly tongue-in-cheek... ;)

On my 4Runner, I banged up the rear bumper offroading (which I thought would suffice but didn't). Then I followed it with not paying attention while backing into the garage and literally backed it into the physical structure of the garage. At that point, she just told me to order whatever bumper I wanted...

Just give her an equivalent budget for the s#@t she wants... For mine, it's designer handbags, tennis shoes, and UGG boots.

That said, you have a serious wish list and have more upgrades on your rig than I...

Ya... That's a big list...
In my case, my wife has very inexpensive tastes...so no handbags or UGGs... She likes to hike, cook, travel and loves long road trips...so I think I'll do OK. :) Was mostly just hoping to hear some Mudder's silly attempts at convincing da wifey of this or that.

I could go on with more on my big list... Gets crazy very quickly... :)

My argument was basically that a stock 200 is not a good looking truck, and no one would believe what it's capable of. It went something like "people think it's a highlander! Look how ugly and frumpy it is!" -(True story, 2 people in my family asked me about the new highlander-one person I was wheeling with asked me why I didn't get a sequoia instead)

After 2 exhausts, a new front right fender and multiple other battle scars and dents on my previous FJ Cruiser it was also an easy argument to mod the Canyonero to "protect our investment."

She agreed and we figured "go big or go home", and that we might as well knock out all the mods early and then just enjoy the truck. My awesome wife actually contacted Slee on her own and had them add the air compressor and rear locker.

I'm a lucky guy!

Good stuff. And ya... It's amazing how much even just wheels, tires, and lift do to obliterate the Highlander thing...

My 100 was fully built, and it was just plain the coolest traveling vehicle ever.
Thankfully my wife loves exploring new, wild places...so I'll get there.
With my 100, I built most of it in one big chunk. With this 200, I can't afford that pace...so it's a longer, repetitive process...

My truck will end up looking very similar to yours eventually...

Ha ha ha... you think the LC looks like a Highlander... ride in an LX... IT DOES LOOK LIKE ONE!! I am hoping the new tires and wheels eliminate this comparison. BTW, some things you just ask forgiveness for... Hopefully, once she sees the new tire / wheel combo this weekend, she will not yell and throw stuff at me...

if you do not hear from me next week.... call the cops.

lol, these are great. I am not as smart, I just buy stuff and hope for the best. Most of the time they go unnoticed unless I am messing with her car. Her birthday is tomorrow and I bought a set of rock warriors to see if I can convince her to put them on the LX even though she is not a huge fan of them on my 100. Keeping fingers crossed it works out when they get here tomorrow :hmm:

Tried the slider argument (side impact collision). Wife pointed out that car bumpers are higher. That's when I told her that that was why we need the lift also!

Didn't work.

Moving on to Plan B.

I had a brand new Panamera (78yo woman who had a little more car than she could handle) bounce off my lifted 4Runner's passenger side slider a couple years back. My slider had a white scuff. The Porsche needed a bit of work to the bumper, sensors, and driver's fender... My wife was riding shotgun and was pregnant at the time. So I was grateful for the slider for sure!

We just don't talk about it. That works out well for me.
