This 2015 has got to be the worst oil filter location of ANY vehicle I have ver owned!!!!

Seriously Lexus/Toy, you JPNs have really figured out a way to work the system. And I thought VW and Mercedes was bad. HA!

No way I’m doing this oil change, screw this sheee it! I did the 470 and that’s bad enough. But this!!!

If I can get my wife out of this rig, I’m done! Ha!
First five LCs, no problem. The sixth, eeh. But this one, this 2015 570, holy crap!!!

what if you’re down and NEED to do a change. It’s not like you can spin off an old clogged filter, drop the plug and let her rip. Repeat, refill.
Here, you need an orchestra with wet suits and a hazmat clean up crew close by, with a Snap On roller box full of gadgets! Oh and… make sure you BYOB!!!

…a plastic jug!!! This is laughable!!

Glad you survived.

One note, you appear to have used an incorrect crush washer on your oil drain plug. The correct part is Toyota Part# 90430-12031 and looks like this:

HTH

P.S. I noticed the crush washer you used was not sitting perfectly concentric with the drain plug flange which means the inner diameter of the washer you used is too big. My guess is the washer you used is based on a size required for Honda engines and has the following dimensions:

71wVi8EAgQL._AC_SL1500_.webp

Whereas the factory part has these dimensions:

61OueTXjshS._AC_SL1500_.webp

What’s the drain plug/filter housing torque value?

What’s the drain plug/filter housing torque value?

Not sure why you're asking me, but:

Oil filter drain plug: 9 ft.lbf
Oil filter cap: 18 ft.lbf
Oil pan drain plug: 30 ft.lbf

Oh FFS... Grow a pair, or turn in your man card and take it to jiffy lube. Then bitch about them leaving out half the skid plate bolts, and pray they don't ruin your engine.

Seriously, IT'S NOT THAT BAD.

I’m curious what percentage of 200 owners here do their own changes and don’t feel the need to complain about the process.

Been doing my own for a long time. For reasons stated above. There’s ways to make things easier / quicker. Do a search on here.

I purchased my 2020 3 weeks ago with 10,877 mileson the clock. I now have 15k miles and get free oil changes at toyota for quite a while yet. I'm doing it myself tomorrow with Mobil 1 5w30. They will never get a chance to work on my truck even in the warranty period. Warranty will be toast as I'm installing my LRA as soon as it arrives. They also might balk at the Harrop SC that I plan to install as soon as I can pick up the kit.

Glad you survived.

Good to know (NAV), thanks for this. FYI, I didn’t change the oil/filter, not sure if I’m going to do it myself or not, but IF I do I will use the correct washer!
Thanks! (USA)

If they get any bigger I'll have to stop using my 470 and use my F250 crew cab on a regular basis. Seats more comfortable in the 250. 😂
Jiffy lube? Sounds like a a hemorrhoid cream. 🤣
The 570 has always been serviced at Lexus, where my wife has taken it. I’m not so sure doing the change myself is worth the energy, or my stress level. I prefer doing my own maintenace, in most cases. In fact, Instead of doing the 570, after watching the painful YT video, I went out and changed the fuel and air filter, oil/oil filter on my Navion (MB 3.0 diesel, 12 qts), which is a breeze to do, even easier than the 470.

It’s not the work, it’s the damn mess…UPSIDE down filter! Makes no freekin sense, none! And, I don’t keep extra empty plastic jugs laying around. Toyota/Lexus should have paired the filters with jugs, and the plastic drain tool!

Yeah, yeah, bitch, bitch, bitch… I’ll have to think about this some more.

You say 5w30? Not 0w20? Hm? I’ve read, in almost all places here and in the manual to use 0w20, on the 2015 anyway.

While my FJ 62 is "easier" to change than a stock 200, the sideways mounted filter always leaves a mess. My old Tacoma with the remote filter right under the hood was the easiest. The 200 generally is not a difficult vehicle to change the oil.

That said, with the addition of a Fumoto valve, BJowett filter canister and bud skids, a 200 oil change it is now a breeze and a very clean operation.

Sure it's not as easy as some, but it's not exactly hard either. Give it a chance. It's definitely doable without a mess.

I have to think there were good engineering and perhaps reliability reasons to locate the oil filter at a low point under the car.

But simply eco/waste considerations when it comes to the cartridge/plastic housing
