I have a Yakima Roof Basket I used on my previous vehicle. I used it with the Yakima aero bars. Our new 2016 Land Cruiser comes with stock cross bars. Anyone have experience putting a Yakima or Thule roof basket/rack on the factory/stock crossbars?

My intended use is for nor more than 150 lbs (probably no more than 100 lbs) of camping and/or off road gear.

I don't want a permanent rack as I will lift it off during the "off season".

I've seen it done, but it ends up sitting really high... One of my hesitations in buying a roof rack is figuring out the lowest profile that is still practical for reaching under to tie, etc.

I run a Yakima mega warrior cargo basket on the stock cross bars on my 2015. It works great-I carried I gallons 8 of gas (2, 4 gallon rotopax), maxtraxx and a hi-lift jack all through Moab and Ouray with no trouble. Fits in the garage without the hi-lift jack.

I personally like the solution because it's removable and extremely light compared to the permanent after market racks.

Thanks! That's what I needed.

I have the same rack that I use on a few vehicles. (The MegaWarrior). But my picture would look silly compared to @Canyonero 's cool rig!

I use the Thule aero bars and mount our Thule roof box or ski racks. When I used the stock bars I got quite a bit of vibration but the Thule bars are rock solid and no vibration. If you grab the stock bars by hand they bend and vibrate. With Thule they don't budge at all.

That pics are worth a thousand words Canyonero. Do you have any with the truck just sitting flat, on regular ground? Trying to get perspective on actual height.

Awesome. Thanks. I just picked up my 200 about a month ago. Was trying to figure out the rack situation because I have a ton of Yakima accessories already- this was helpful.

I didn't measure the rack with the extensions yet but had been meaning to.

This shows me how it looks.

Thanks again.

Ha! Kid-tested!

BTW, since I originally created this post I have used my extended Load Warrior on the factory rails a number of times. Not that much up there but MaxTrax, a shovel and some camping chairs. But it works great.

I have the extended version of the Load Warrior and it does not interfere. I positioned it as far back as I could without impacting the tailgate when raised. (That makes it easier to access stuff by standing on the lower tailgate.)

BTW, I saw a 4Runner with a ladder on its tailgate today. Anyone know if there is a good ladder out there that would work on the upper tailgate of a 2016?

Yakima is about to release a roof mounted tent in two sized.

They look pretty good. We're about to order one.

My Gobi rack came with a 'free ladder' when I purchased it, but I believe you can get it separately here - Gobi or Trail Duty (free install for those in CO vs. paying for freight shipping)

Alternatively, I think Slee's rear bumper will offer a ladder as a swingout option as well. Price TBD.

Thanks, Kevin. I don't want to do the bumper thing any time soon if ever so the Gobi may be an option. I see they are not too far from me so I may give them a call tomorrow.

NP, and I know we're a little off topic, but the Gobi ladder is super burly and easily handles a lot of weight (i'm 6'5" 235 lbs) but the convenience of being able to scramble up and arrange gear in my Yakima Sky Box, as well as other applications, has proven quite useful. The one downside (as pointed out by another MUD member @Romer ) is that the ladder does cover up the "Land" portion of our "Land Cruiser" chrome badging.
