I am facilitating a group effort to buy a 40 for my brother as a surprise wedding present. He had a 40 in the 80's while working around the oil patch in Montana and around the West. Must be turn key, not interested in a project. The idea is for me to source and purchase the rig and show up at his wedding in Colorado where he now resides. Rig can be picked up pretty much anywhere in the US….

interested in/prefer:
- turn key ie not a project or needs this needs that...
- no rust,
- highway/street worthy - light trail use (don't need 35's 4 inches of lift, etc.)
- stockish appearance (no straight vertical stack dual exhaust/mercedes front end, etc….)
- not scared of mods/"upgrades" (disc brakes, power steering, mild lift, etc.)
- can be 2F, Chevy, etc.
- 50 state registrable
- LHD

BUDGET ~20K US dollars

I hope this works out - I would love to be able to pull up an entertain his drooling and appreciation of "my" new truck for a few minutes and then hand him the keys…

I would love to hear of any potential rigs, leads, or other information (useful or otherwise)

My brother gave me the mumps and shot me in the hand with a BB gun when I was younger. :)
Good luck with your search.

will you adopt me?

This guy has what you want. Perhaps you are already familiar with him? Not sure how negotiable his prices are, but since he seems to have his finger on the pulse of many available late model 40s it might be worth contacting him.

A couple more options . . .

One color inside one color outside. http://longisland.craigslist.org/cto/4477999811.html

I've seen this one before somewhere. Maybe on Mud? I don't recall. Looks right decent though. http://norfolk.craigslist.org/cto/4479910866.html

And then of course there is this one. . . http://chicago.craigslist.org/nwc/cto/4474340850.html . . . Just kidding!

You might already be aware of this Website also, but if you are not, you can view up-to-the-hour Craigslist postings nation-wide at this nifty Website: http://fj40search.com

All the best in your search. Who knows, maybe some Mud member will come along with just what you are looking for!

Keep 'em coming old red…That one with the Arizona sun burn is right in my wheel house…That one with the jacques Cousteau looking gauge cluster….Hmmmmmmmm

Will do Cody

I'd love to get involved in this project but nice stock 78 or later is very hard to find for $20K without making some concessions for paint, body and/or mechanical work. The examples here are all good candidates but will require some work. I just sold a 78 with PS and A/C for $26K and that was a deal IMHO. If I see something that fits the bill, I will post it. You're a great Brother to be doing this - before his wife has a chance to say NO!

Greg

Thanks Greg, Might be some wiggle in the budget. It was his fiancé's idea (she contacted me privately and we are in cahoots to hopefully make it happen.

Huck don't give up! That '74 sure is nice….I am leaning towards '78 and newer as that it what he had way back when….Cody's is sweet too!

Roger that... '78 and up would be my preference if money was not a concern! Sounds like your brother is a very lucky man :)

I'm still stuck on all Toyota or I believe Cody's rig would be mine... Best of Luck to you!

get the green one in Norfolk......just the right amount of upgrades.....then he can make any further mods that he wants

Owner hasn't yet returned inquiry - looks like it could be a candidate

Wow….There are some nice cruisers out there…..This is a tough search (If I listen closely I can hear very small violins playing….What's that song?……"Concerto of first world problems?"…...

Thanks pimp, I've been drooling over that rig, I've exchanged some email with him….I'm going to the "group" for OK on additional funding….That sure is a pretty truck!

Man great responses. I'm looking for the same but on the south side of 20k would prefer under 15.

I actually don't want it perfect and don't mind some concessions.

Had a sweet 78 green fj40 almost 15years ago that I bought as my first car. Trying to relive old times. Some dumbass trucker wrecked that one. Sigh first one is always the best one.
