I'm new to this scene. looking for a family-weekend-getaway... occasional light-wheeling rig. I was looking at 4runner's, until I realized that I could cram almost as much gear into my Honda. Having the option to transport 6+ people is a huge +. So the search for a LC began.
My budget is around 12-14K. 98-03' preferred d/t price point. Must be CLEAN INTERIOR, clean title, well maintained, and NOT GOLD. Sorry, but IMHO that color is bland, and should only be driven by my grandma, who is currently driving a gold Rav4 as a matter of fact...
I'm married w/ 2 younger kids (5 and 8) and am looking forward to getting them into enjoying the great outdoors of the Sierra Nevada's and some of the country's other beautiful National Parks and trails.
I'm open to higher mileage, if there are some tasteful mods/upgrades, but, no trail beasts. My wife won't sign off on anything that looks like it belongs in a Rubicon Trailing magazine (as much as I'd love one!)
Examples for what I'd be willing to purchase:
-I've found, and missed out on a stock 2000 LC, with 130K miles, original owner, 90K service completed, clean title, VERY clean interior, listed at $12,900 in the North Bay Area.
-stock 2001 LX470, 2nd owner, 106K miles, full maintenance records w/ 90K service, super clean, listed for $14,500 in San Francisco.
-(mild build) 98'/99' LC with detailed maintenance records, e-locker, 150-200K miles, good interior, suspension upgrades (OME 2.5", front suspension work/replacement, 33"-35" AT's, wheels, sliders, etc.)
I'm not a big fan of the ARB bumpers, (I think Slee's "blueberry" looks the cleanest) but if the price is right, I suppose anything is possible. Hopefully this paints a decent picture for what I'm looking for. Again, I'm very new to this forum, and have been lurking for about 6 months, just browsing the build forums, prices, and overall, appreciating the capabilities and fun that these vehicles have been providing their owners.
