Wrecked my LX470 :(

Also the collision center is going to charge me $810 if I decide not to fix it with them.
This shouldn't be right. Your insurance should pay for the tow and the estimate.

Maybe I'm reading this wrong?

There is no guarantee that they will cover it, but they should, especially if this is one of their "partnered" shops. If this is a shop that was your preference, you might have to work a good bit harder to get the insurance to pay for the tear down, but they should as the tear down was done in order to provide them a clearer picture of the total damage.

Will have to wait and see then.
The shop was my preference being the only Lexus Certified Collision Center in my area and the fact that my Insurance's logo (Geico) is on their website.

General speaking, are the auto collision centers/body repair shops (say the ones with very high review scores on Google/Yelp) capable of making things right for the Hundys? Usually they offer much better deals and are much more convenient (avoid flat towing from place to place, scheduling, delay etc.) if both the body+mechanic works are done by the same bodyshop. I know for a Honda Civic or Rav4 I wouldn't care. But are Hundys mechanically special enough and skill-demanding enough to warrant going through the trouble and paying extra to do body and mechanical recovery separately?
Thanks for any insight.
The hundreds are not very specialized vehicles. Any honest and reasonably competent mechanic should be able to do any job on a hundred. They share most of the drivetrain with Tundra, Sequoia and GX460

well, I suppose it should be possible and probably fair to have the insurance pay for the tow and inspection on the premise that they needed it for the estimate, not you. But I can see there being issues if you decide not to have the work done there. You may need to push a bit. I can certainly see that they would not pay for more than one tow, though.
Now, the repair place is of course jacking up the cost of disassembly just to keep you there. And of course the shop has to be paid for their work regardless. But it's also quite likely that if they are a preferred place for your insurance it's a number that the insurance company would get a big discount on that so they may also relent readily. Plus it could be bad publicity for them if they don't (hint hint). I would not assume that any of the costs bandied about are actual costs. When I talked to body shops in the past they made it quite clear that if I paid myself it would be much less than what was quoted for the insurance.
Of course, if you've signed a contract personally with the shop, you will have to honor that and then fight it out with the insurance.
Be very careful with storage fees! At $145 / day it will add up fast and the insurance may balk at that if you are responsible for any delay.

Update: Its been almost 2 weeks since it was dropped off at the Certified Lexus Collison Center for my inspection. They said they are just waiting on my insurance after an adjuster went to see it yesterday.
They found more damage to the fender and said it extended to the other fender? Also something about the front center being off. Damages are now in the 12k range.
At this point I see them trying to total it.

I opted to take the money and do the repairs myself. Personal Check being dropped off at my house Monday.
I think that is a great idea. Best of luck

The insurance company probably valued your truck for $18k, so the repair bill is not enough for being totaled. That's a fair price for a Cali Hundy these days :steer:
I was dead wrong. I was betting the house on it being totalled. 18k - 20k is what I was also thinking to come out unscathed but what were my chances with 280k on the dial? I dodged a bullet!

Not all bumpers are in stock usually. Some have 12 to 16 weeks wait time.
Slee Blueberry is generally considered the strongest bumper. ARB, TJM and Ironman are fairly strong, feature laden and usually readily in stock (at bumpersuperstore, slee or ironman website). There are quite a few other options as well

I chose the TJM T17. Besides price & looking good there’s a place for the license plate that doesn’t block the fairlead. On other bumpers plate mounting seems like an afterthought.
Thank you for the suggestion, I went ahead and placed my order for the TJM. 2-3 week lead time.
I was able to source a fender of the same color and have also received the suspension parts and headlamps. Headlamp trim pieces on order.
Off to a good start.

If ones LX or LC is totaled by the Insurance Company and we want to keep the vehicle, how does the Insurance Company determine if the price the Insurance Company offers the vehicle is fair?

I guess I'm wondering the price range a place like Copart is getting for "totaled" LX and LC's.
