OK.. I'm not selling the 80... no matter what. But I'm looking to get a commuter car that can get at least an average of 30miles/gal. I'm also only looking to spend around $2500 and would rather not have a diesel. Also, I don't care about the "image" just the mileage and something reliable.
Some options I've looked into are early/mid 90 Corolla and Tercels (cuz I'm partial to Toyota)
I haven't found many civics in that price range either.
But I was also wondering about Geo Metros? Specifically I found a 97 hatchback for $1800 w/ 137k miles. Does anyone have any first hand experience with these and would recommend or tell me to stay away from them? This one is the 1.3L 4cyl automatic. I know the manual w/ 1.3L or 1.0L 3cyl would be better on mileage, but I haven't found one in the area yet.
Any other recommendations while I'm open to cheap effiecent cars. And the reason I was looking at newer metros was... if I am going to be driving in a shoe box, it better have airbags to help in an accident
Thanks
